It offers shrimps and especially dwarf crayfish an ideal cave to hide in and at the same time a place to escape when stronger conspecifics pass by in the hiding place. Dwarf crayfish in particular need a hiding place because they also like to retreat in nature. Shrimps - especially egg-bearing female shrimps - also like a quiet place and gratefully accept the cave. The narrow crevices at the top of the cave are ideal for attaching plants or moss.
