Another name for Anubias barteri var. nana "Bonsai" is Anubias barteri var. nana "Petite". It is the smallest variety of the dwarf spear leaf. Its small dark green leaves grow only about 1-2 cm long and the whole plant grows only about five centimeters in height. Anubias are quite hard-leaved, making them suitable for perch tanks.
This dwarf spear leaf is tied onto a lava stone (Nanostone) with almost invisible thread and can be ideally used in the foreground and middle ground as a contrast plant to light green stem plants. Anubias should never be planted in the substrate because their rhizome can rot.
Anubias can be found in the biotope in streams in the shade of jungle trees, they also do not need strong light in the aquarium.
Anubias "Petite" can be propagated simply by cutting off a piece of rhizome with one or two leaves and then tying it up.
