from over 3,000 reviews "The orange red ramshorn snail is a color variant of the brown Planorbella duryi from southern North America, which is common in aquaristics all over the world. This color form is characterized by a golden-transparent shell, through which the red body shines through - this makes the shell look orange to reddish. The orange red ramshorn snail, often abbreviated as PHS, grows up to 2.5 cm in size. This snail species is hermaphroditic and can even fertilize itself. According to literature, however, in this case only 4-8% of the eggs are viable. Sexual reproduction is preferred.
The clutch of the posthorn snail is clock-glass shaped round and has a surprisingly firm, domed lid. The eggs within the clutch lie neatly side by side in a single plane. It is attached to all kinds of surfaces, plant parts, roots, the glass, stones ... After two to three weeks the young snails hatch. Depending on the food supply, the orange red PHS will reproduce very well, which also makes it a very suitable and highly breedable food snail for predatory snails, puffer fish, etc.
Overfeeding the aquarium can result in a true population explosion. With little food and possibly the use of a snail trap , one gets this supposed plague under control very quickly, and with an adapted feeding one can prevent it wonderfully.
The post horn snail is an absolute omnivore and as a health police in the aquarium not only takes care of food remains, but also algae deposits, dead plant parts and dead animals. Living animals and healthy plants are not eaten. Targeted supplementary feeding is only necessary in the case of a feeding snail. For this purpose, you can use all conventional feeds in aquaristics, as well as foliage, greens, vegetables ..
The socialization of the orange red post horn snail with peaceful fish, dwarf shrimps, other peaceful snails and mussels is possible without any problems. If you accept that snails are eaten, you can also keep them with dwarf crabs, large crabs and shrimps. In this case a species tank for the specific breeding of snails is recommended. The post horn snail has no great demands on the water values, although it is much longer-lived in harder water than in soft water.
Our food recommendation: With the Natureholic Snail Feed Power Paste you create a feeding lawn that is very well accepted by all aufwuchs feeding snails. Also delicate wild-caught snails such as racing snails or staghorn snails, which are stressed after transport and do not go to conventional food, can be fed up well with it.
Our plant recommendation: Use for the planting NatureHolic InVitros. These are free of snails, planarians and other unwanted co-inhabitants. Also free of algae spores, bacteria and fungi.
Expert Tip: We recommend for fish keeping the NatureHolic 3 Phase Liquid. The care set offers the best all-round protection for your animals. It ensures optimal conditions for successful breeding and keeping.
Actively prevent outbreaks: With the invisible Natureholic Snail Barrier you prevent the escape and loss of your snails from the aquarium.
