The Indian star plant Pogostemon erectus, which grows about 40 cm high, fits perfectly in the middle ground of a larger aquarium or in the background of a smaller aquarium. The fine needle-shaped leaves are light green and form really great contrasts against red or even darker green aquatic plants and aquarium plants with ribbon-shaped, broad or round leaves.
The Indian star plant needs a proper supply of nutrients and CO2. If these needs are met, the plant is a relatively easy candidate to maintain in the aquarium.
Pogostemon erectus tolerates pruning quite easily and develops side shoots that make the plant groups appear bushier and wonderfully compact when regularly pruned.
Propagation of the Indian star plant in the aquarium is not difficult, for this purpose pruning can be perfectly used: The cut shoots are simply stuck into the ground. The cuttings quickly sprout new roots and begin to grow.
This Pogostemon erectus from NatureHolic comes from In Vitro culture, which means it is free of pests and annoying co-inhabitants such as snails and worms, does not bring any algae or pathogens and has not been treated with pesticides. You can put the star plant in your aquarium immediately without watering - only the nutrient medium should be removed carefully under running water beforehand.
You can also grow the Indian star plant above water in a wabi kusa, waterfall aquarium, wet terrarium or paludarium. Here it may even come to flower.
Our recommendation: For a splendid plant growth we recommend the use of the NatureHolic fertilizer series and for new plants the Premium Nutrient Substrate NatureHolic GroundBooster.
