Pointed mud snails - Lymnaea stagnalis
Lymnaea stagnalis, the pointed mud snail, always reminds a bit of Yoda from Star Wars with its triangular ear-like antennae. It is quite useful in the aquarium because it takes care of hydras and can keep the population of freshwater polyps in the aquarium short. The pointed mud snail is also otherwise very pretty to look at with its bulbous, pointed shell. It does reproduce in freshwater, but you don't hear of mass overpopulation like you do with bubble snails, for example, when fed too much. - Garnelio
Description

The long, pointed, towards the mouth somewhat bulbous light brown to dark brown shell of the pointed mud snail Lymnaea stagnalis from Central Europe becomes up to 6 cm long in the garden pond, in the aquarium the animals usually remain significantly smaller. The pointed mud snail has typical triangular antennae, which become broader towards the base. The Sharp Mud Snail is a hermaphrodite, i.e. a snail has male and female sexual characteristics.

Basically the keeping of the pointed mud snail is very simple. It can be kept in the aquarium as well as in the pond. In the aquarium it feeds on food remnants, algae and the scum on the aquarium water surface. Living plants are partially nibbled, whereby the feeding damage is limited and usually manifests itself only as small holes.

Sharp mud snails reproduce relatively well, especially in cooler water. They lay their eggs in typical elongated, narrow spawning cords, which they attach to stones, plants or the glass, from where they can be easily collected - provided no offspring are desired.

A special characteristic of the pointed mud snail is the fact that it eats hydras (freshwater polyps). Certainly, it will hardly be possible to completely wipe out a hydrate population, but the population density will decrease considerably.

The mud snails can be kept together with peaceful dwarf and fan shrimps, non-predatory fish, peaceful snails and mussels.

Sharp mud snails are not picky about water values. However, they are much more persistent in medium to hard water.

Our food recommendation: With the Natureholic Snail Feed Power Paste you create a feeding lawn that is very well accepted by all aufwuchs feeding snails. Also delicate wild-caught snails such as racing snails or staghorn snails, which are stressed after transport and do not go to conventional food, can be fed up well with it.

Our plant recommendation: Use for the planting NatureHolic InVitros. These are free of snails, planarians and other unwanted co-inhabitants. Also free of algae spores, bacteria and fungi.

Expert Tip: We recommend for fish keeping the NatureHolic 3 Phase Liquid. The care set offers the best all-round protection for your animals. It ensures optimal conditions for successful breeding and keeping.

Actively prevent outbreaks: With the invisible Natureholic Snail Barrier you prevent the escape and loss of your snails from the aquarium.

Bin recht neu was Aquarien etc. angeht. Vielen Dank im Voraus! LG"

Hallo A, vielen Dank fuer deine Frage!

Gerne wieder
