This Red Fancy Tiger Grade A is a crossbreeding of bee shrimp (Caridina logemanni) and tiger shrimp (Caridina mariae). For this reason the Fancy Tiger is called Caridina sp. This breeding form does not occur in nature, it was bred specifically in the aquarium. Bee Shrimp and Tiger Shrimp originally live in southern China in cool, clean streams with soft water rich in oxygen. Red Fancy Tiger Shrimp have been known and popular in the aquarium hobby for several years. Here you buy a red and white colored single animal of Grade A, which means that the animal has transparent spots in its cover color. The offspring of Grade A shrimp can develop higher color coverage through careful breeding selection.
The Red Fancy Tiger dwarf shrimp grows to 2-3 inches in size. The Grade A has transparent areas, a white base color that the animal inherited from the bee shrimp, and a red pattern that varies greatly depending on the shrimp, showing on the one hand the heritage of the bee shrimp and showing parts of the typical classic Red Bee pattern, and on the other hand also the thinner tiger stripes that the Fancy Tiger inherited from Caridina mariae. Sexually mature females of the Red Fancy Tiger shrimp Grade A have a rounder, beefier shape and they also grow larger than the thinner males. Some Fancy Tiger females develop what is known as a tiger scoop, in them the second segment of the abdomen is widened downward in a scoop shape. The egg spot, by which females can be clearly and easily recognized, is usually not visible under the cover color.
Like their wild ancestors from southern China, Red Fancy Tiger Shrimp like clean, low-germ, soft water with a high oxygen content and a pH slightly below seven in their aquarium. Red Fancy Tiger Dwarf Shrimp Grade A can be kept in a nano aquarium as small as 20 liters. Be sure to add humic substances to the water. Tap water is not well suited for keeping high breeding Caridina shrimp in most regions. Better is osmosis water or demineralized water from a demineralizer / deionized water and a hardening salt for bee shrimp. In our Garnelio Shop facility, we keep these Red Fancy Tiger Grade A dwarf shrimp at a conductivity of 250 microsiemens and a pH slightly below seven. For bee shrimp and other soft water shrimp designed Hardening salts you can find in our online store suitable to buy.
Highly cultured Caridina like to sit on active Soil because it lowers the carbonate hardness of the water and buffers the pH in a slightly acidic range. If you want to stock the aquarium soon, make sure that the Soil is not pre-fertilized, so do not choose a plant Soil. Fertilized Soil is known to release a lot of nutrients at the beginning, which the shrimps do not like at all. An aquarium with plant soil should therefore run unoccupied for a longer period of time until the release of nutrients has decreased.
Ideally the Red Fancy Tiger should be kept at an aquarium temperature of 20 to 25 degrees. If the water gets warmer in summer, the use of an aquarium cooler is advisable.
For a specific breeding of the Red Fancy Tiger, the breeding tank is rather sparsely planted, so you make the breeding selection easier, because the tank is clearer. High breeding Caridina do not tolerate the plant nutrient nitrate well in higher concentrations, so discerning plants for the aquarium are ruled out. A good choice are mosses and perching plants like Bucephalandra for greening. Tie them up on smaller rocks or root pieces that you can take out of the aquarium if you want to sort your Red Fancy Tiger shrimp by color, color coverage or pattern. The shrimp find hiding places and grazing grounds in the plants, so they are also useful and important in the breeding aquarium for high breeding shrimp.
It is best not to socialize your Red Fancy Tiger Shrimp, but keep them in a species tank. Fish, predatory snails or crabs and shrimps can eat young shrimps or even adult shrimps, and often the demands on the water values do not match anyway. The socialization of Caridina sp. with aufwuchs feeding catfish such as Otocinclus is possible in sufficiently large aquariums. Red Fancy Tiger Shrimp will interbreed with all variants of Caridina cantonensis, Caridina serrata, with tiger shr imp and with bee shrimp, which can lead to pattern changes or poor color coverage. From experience, snails have problems with soft water in high-breeding shrimp aquariums. Instead, shiny worms or tubifex , for example, are good as a clean-up troop. The worms loosen the substrate and keep it clean, and besides, they serve the shrimp as a permanent source of protein-rich, well-tolerated Live food.
Female Red Fancy Tiger Dwarf Shrimp carry 15-30 eggs under their pleon (the abdomen) after mating with a male. After roughly 3-5 weeks, the juvenile shrimp hatch from these without the larval stage and live directly on their own because they are fully developed and can survive in freshwater. The breeding of Red Fancy Tigers is not really difficult under suitable conditions.
The omnivorous Red Fancy Tiger shrimps feed mainly on bacterial deposits, algae films and other growth. Vegetable food is preferred, but the animals also need protein, which can be supplemented with protein food for shrimps or frozen food. Green dried walnut leaves are a favorite food for the Red Fancy Tiger Shrimp, also scalded nettle leaves are a favorite food. A sea almond leaf or brown autumn leaves are suitable as permanent food. They also provide the important humic substances, tannins and fiber.
Our food recommendation: NatureHolic's soft Mainfeed Softpads are designed for daily feeding. They contain all the nutrients shrimp need for shell development, egg formation and growth. During the production process we pay attention to a gentle and environmentally friendly production, which preserves the vitamins and other valuable ingredients as much as possible.
Our plant recommendation: Use for the planting NatureHolic InVitros. These are free of snails, planaria and other unwanted co-inhabitants. Also free of algae spores, bacteria and fungi.
Expert Tip: We recommend for fish keeping the NatureHolic 3 Phase Liquid. The care set offers the best all-round protection for your animals. It ensures optimal conditions for successful breeding and keeping.
