Alternanthera reineckii "Red" , the red-leaved parrot leaf from South America, delights with olive-green leaves on top, reddish-pink underneath and bright red stems. In aquaristics, the parrot leaves have been extremely popular for a long time and are used especially in the planting streets of the Holland aquarium.
The red-leaved parrot leaf grows compactly and bushy branched with regular pruning and remains relatively low with about 40 cm. It cuts a good figure in the middle ground and background.
The shoots that are produced during pruning can be replanted, so the red-leaved parrot leaf is easy to propagate.
Under strong light the colors become more intense, under weaker light the growth is not as compact and the plant remains greener overall.
