"Sakura" is Japanese and actually means "cherry blossom". Red Sakura shrimp do not have much in common with cherry blossoms, but the name has become common for very opaque and intensely colored animals. In principle, the Red Sakura shrimp belongs to the same species as the Red Fire or Red Cherry shrimp, but unlike them it does not show transparent spots on the body. Red Sakuras of very high quality also have partially or completely colored red legs. Like other color varieties of the species Neocaridina davidi, the Red Sakura is also very suitable for beginners, as it tolerates a wide range of water values and is quite robust. The original form lives in nature in flowing as well as in standing waters and gets along there with very different water values. Also nutrient-rich water causes it no problems.
The Red Sakura shrimp is uniformly bright light to dark red in color. The males show a slightly weaker coloration than the females. If you want to maintain the color quality of the animals in the long run, you should sort out weaker and not opaque colored shrimp, which can occur in the offspring.
Neocaridina davidi are peaceful shrimps that feel comfortable in a group. We recommend 10 to 20 animals as initial stocking. The Red Sakura shrimp belongs to the specialized reproductive type, which means that the young hatch in freshwater and do not have to go through a larval stage.
Red Sakuras are omnivores. Brown foliage is a good permanent food, it should not be missing in any invertebrate aquarium. Once or twice a week they need a suitable protein food, otherwise they are happy with vegetable food.
Red Sakura shrimp are known for their good reproduction. This makes them not only good beginner shrimp, but also optimal for socialization with not too curious, peaceful fish. They can also be kept together with dwarf and large crustaceans or snails as well as mussels . They are also suitable for the water part in a freshwater aquaterrarium. Red Sakura shrimp mix with all other colors and species of the genus Neocaridina. In the offspring you can often find different colored or even transparent animals. If the water conditions are suitable, Red Sakura shrimp can also be socialized with other dwarf shrimp.
