The red tiger lotus (Nymphaea lotus "rubra"), which comes from West Africa, is actually a water lily, but in addition to floating leaves it also forms underwater leaves. For the middle ground and as a specimen plant, the red color variety with its different hues and striking smooth large leaves is wonderful. If the aquarium is not covered, the tiger lotus can even bloom - its flower is bright purple or white with a yellow center.
In addition to underwater leaves, floating leaves with a long stem also sprout from the bulb. If you cut them directly, the compact bushy growth remains. If you let them grow, fish that don't like it so bright and invertebrates will be happy. Please make sure that your other plants still get enough light, and cut off any floating leaves that are too large or overgrown. Red Tiger Lotus does very well with pruning.
Please only place the bulb about 2/3 into the soil, it can rot if buried all the way. The more pointed side should face up.
Our recommendation: For a splendid plant growth we recommend the use of the NatureHolic fertilizer series and for new set up the Premium Nutrient Substrate NatureHolic GroundBooster.
