The white color form of the Black Bee shrimp or the Red Bee shrimp is called Show White Bee or simply Snow White. Their body is white without black or red markings. Especially in planted aquariums it forms a beautiful contrast to green and red plants. The females grow up to 3.5 centimeters, while the males remain somewhat smaller and also slimmer. In December 2014, the bee shrimp was first scientifically described as a species. It was given the name Caridina logemanni. Whether the Snow White Bee was created by deliberate breeding selection or by a spontaneous mutation or even a crossbreeding of another species such as the tiger shrimp - there are two different opinions.
Like all bee shrimp , the Snow White Bee likes cool, slightly acidic and soft, clean water. The water that comes out of the tap in our part of the world, , depending on the region, is not necessarily suitable for long-term keeping or even for the reproduction of bee shrimp, as it is very often too hard. As a soft water shrimp, the Snow White Bee can only tolerate an extremely low carbonate hardness on a permanent basis. Therefore, it is best to use osmosis water for them, which is hardened with a special mineral salt for bee shr imp. Also an active Soil, which optimally buffers the water values for bee shrimps, has proven itself with many keepers and breeders. Of course you can also keep the Snow White Bee in an aquarium with neutral substrate like gravel - but you should make absolutely sure that the substrate does not release any lime into the water. For bee shrimp, including the Snow White Bee, a water change of 10 to 30% per week has proven to be effective. These animals feel comfortable at room temperature, a heater is therefore rather unnecessary. In summer, temperatures should not exceed 25 °C, so you may want to consider cooling the aquarium, depending on its location.
If the environmental conditions are favorable for the Snow White Bee, it reproduces well to very well. The females carry between 20 and 40 eggs under their abdomen, which they sort through, preen and fan during the gestation period of three to four weeks. After this time, young shrimp hatch and are immediately independent. In the early days, these baby shrimp are quite sedentary and should be provided with a dust food that settles throughout the aquarium.
As a scavenger and omnivore, the Snow White Bee is not particularly difficult when it comes to food selection. It is very fond of eating brown fall foliage, which is a good permanent food for the shrimp and can be left in the aquarium. Two to three times a week, Snow White Bees should be fed a suitable protein food that meets their protein needs, and otherwise fed a primarily vegetable diet.
With the other color varieties of the bee shrimp (Black Bee and Red Bee) the Snow White Bee can be well socialized, since the demands on the water values are identical. If you want to socialize them with other shrimp species, this should also be given! Snails and also peaceful small fish are good aquarium companions for the Snow White Shrimp. However, due to their lower reproduction rates, you should possibly think about a species tank - not with all fish you can guarantee 100% that a young shrimp will not find its way into the little mouth. Snow White Shrimp should not be kept with crayfish, predatory snails, freshwater crabs and mussels because of the different water requirements and the possible danger of being eaten.
Our food recommendation: NatureHolic's soft mainfeed softpads are designed for daily feeding. They contain all the nutrients shrimp need for shell development, egg formation and growth. During the production we pay attention to a gentle and environmentally friendly production, in which the vitamins and other valuable ingredients are preserved as far as possible.
Our plant recommendation: Use for the planting NatureHolic InVitros. These are free of snails, planaria and other unwanted co-inhabitants. Also free of algae spores, bacteria and fungi.
Expert Tip: We recommend for fish keeping the NatureHolic 3 Phase Liquid. The care set offers the best all-round protection for your animals. It ensures optimal conditions for successful breeding and keeping.
