This beautiful, particularly intense dark green Super Green Jade shr imp is a color variation of the extremely popular backstroke shrimp Neocaridina davidi. The velvety green coloration of the Super Green Jade (also known as Dark Green Jade ) does not diminish significantly even on a light substrate - this is an absolute specialty! The green of juveniles will become slightly more intense as the dwarf shrimp ages. Some females may develop a lighter dorsal stripe. At up to 3 cm, female Dark Green Jade grow to about medium size, while males remain smaller.
The Super Green Jade Dwarf Shrimp is not only great colored, it is also very useful in the aquarium. It eats mainly fine algae growth, biofilms and food remains, also dead animals and dead plants - and thus keeps the aquarium tip-top clean. You can also feed Neocaridina davidi "Super Green Jade" with special shrimp food, for example with our NatureHolic shrimp food varieties. Twice a week it makes sense to supplement the predominantly vegetable diet with a suitable protein food. This way the shrimp can meet their protein requirements. Brown autumn leaves are, as for all dwarf shrimp in the aquarium, also for the Super Green Jade Shrimp one of the best permanent foods. It significantly increases the survival rate especially of juvenile shrimp in the aquarium.
The aquarium setup is quite simple for Neocaridina davidi "Super Green Jade" - in mosses and finely structured plants the small Super Green Jade find hiding places and biofilms to feed on. Stones and roots are used as structure and also grazed. The aquarium bottom does not have to be dark for this color variety - the colors of the Super Green Jade Neocaridina do not diminish significantly even on a lighter bottom. The dwarf shrimps feel well in beautifully designed aquariums and aquascapes as well as in less heavily decorated breeding aquariums.
Dark Green Jade, like all Neocaridina, do best in medium to hard water, soft water is also possible if the animals get enough minerals through their food. A good mineral food like our NatureHolic Mineralfeed according to feeding instructions can be very helpful. The pH of the aquarium water for the Super Green Jade Shrimp should be between 6.5 and 8.5.
The Super Green Jade Shrimp is a very peaceful aquarium animal and can therefore be well socialized with other aquarium inhabitants such as peaceful snails or small to maximum medium sized peaceful and not too curious or pushy fish. When socializing with other dwarf shrimps you have to make sure that the shrimps do not cross and that they have about the same demands on the water values in the aquarium. For a possible crossability you can have a look at our crossbreeding table. Shrimp colors resulting from crossbreeding may not be heritable!
Due to the rarity of this beautiful new color form we advise to keep them in a species tank without admixture of other Neocaridina colors. The colors can scatter quite a bit in the offspring, therefore you have to select the offspring of the Super Green Jade well and sort out unwanted colors and patterns and put them in an extra tank.
The breeding of the Super Green Jade Neocaridina shrimp is easy. The female, after fertilization by one or more males, sets twenty to forty eggs which she carries and cares for under her abdomen until the fully developed young hatch. The baby shrimp do not need a separate rearing tank - the parents pose no threat to their offspring. In the community tank with fish, the small shrimps need as many cushions of moss, finely structured moss balls or other fine finned plants as possible in which they can hide from predators. As with all color varieties of the Neocaridina davidi backstroke dwarf shrimp, the color of the Super Green Jade shrimp can be further enhanced or maintained by selective breeding.
Our food recommendation: The soft Mainfeed Softpads from NatureHolic are designed for daily feeding. They contain all the nutrients shrimp need for shell development, egg formation and growth. During the production we pay attention to a gentle and environmentally friendly production, which preserves the vitamins and other valuable ingredients as much as possible.
Our plant recommendation: Use for planting NatureHolic InVitros. These are free of snails, planaria and other unwanted co-inhabitants. Also free of algae spores, bacteria and fungi.
Expert Tip: We recommend for fish keeping the NatureHolic 3 Phase Liquid. The care set offers the best all-round protection for your animals. It ensures optimal conditions for successful breeding and keeping.
