from over 3,000 reviews "The Disco Vampire Crab is a beautiful small land crab of the genus Geosesarma, which can be kept and also reproduced well even in a smaller terrarium. Geosesarma cf. tiomanicum is characterized by radiant, bright colors and charms mainly with orange tones on the carapace and legs and purple claws. Under strong light the colors become especially intense. With a carapace width of about 2 cm it remains quite small. Males have a narrow, pointed abdominal flap, while that of females is wider with a rounded end.
The disco crab belongs to the specialized reproductive type. That is, fully developed juvenile crabs hatch from the relatively few, large eggs carried by the female under the abdominal valve. Geosesarma cf. tiomanicum carries for a very long time, the young crabs hatch only after more than 200 days. In large, well structured terrariums with many hiding places the young crabs have the best chance of survival. In such terrariums they can be left with the parents, otherwise we recommend separate rearing.
As a peaceful group animal the Disco Crab should not be kept alone. In a group there should always be a surplus of females. We recommend a species terrarium.
For a group of five to six animals a wet terrarium from 60 cm edge length is suitable. Since Geosesarma cf. tiomanicum is a land crab, no large water part is needed. A 6-10 cm deep bowl with fresh water is sufficient. Do not forget exit possibilities! The terrarium should be kept well moist, it can be planted densely, disco crabs do not eat plants. They feel most comfortable at a temperature of 20 to 26 °C. Terrarium humus or coco humus is ideal as substrate. It should be high enough for the crabs to dig their short tunnels. Since Disco Crabs are extremely skilled climbers, the terrarium must be absolutely tight.
The Disco Crab is a predominantly carnivorous cra b. It is very fond of special crab food for Geosesarma and other carnivorous crabs, frozen food and freeze-dried insects. Brown autumn leaves serve mainly as food for white isopods and springtails , which should also not be missing in the Geosesarma terrarium. They serve as a live food source, but also as a cleaning troop. Now and then fruit and vegetables can be offered, a little of it is also eaten.
Our food recommendation: Crabs in the wild tend to have a very varied diet. Most species are omnivores, and with the Natureholic Crab Feed Sticks we have taken this preference into account. They contain biologically balanced animal and vegetable components, which are also part of the natural food spectrum of omnivorous crabs in the field in such or such a similar way. The valuable ingredients of NatureHolic Crab Feed naturally support the molting, digestion, growth and reproduction of your crabs.
Our plant recommendation: For planting, use marsh plants, which are plants that are rooted in soil that is very wet or even submerged, but whose flowers and leaves are usually all or partially in the airspace and can be seen above the water surface. Thus, marsh plants are usually found on and in lakes and streams, but also on and in garden ponds or other bodies of water that provide them with a wet substrate, but still leave room for flowers and leaves to show to the outside.
Expert Tip: We recommend NatureHolic 3 Phase Liquid when keeping invertebrates. The care set offers the best all-round protection for your invertebrates. It ensures optimal conditions for successful breeding and keeping.
