Bitterling barbs are quasi old hands in aquaristics and are scientifically also called Puntius titteya. The Veil form is a breeding variant of the otherwise rather short-finned barbs. Because bitterling barbs are quite simple in their care, they are also well suited for beginners, who may well forgive the one or other faux pas. Originally, they come from low-flow forest streams in Sri Lanka. The Schleier Bitterlingsbarben are German after-breeds.
With increasing aging their otherwise rather yellow basic color turns yellow ground color into the reddishthe black longitudinal band extends from the eye to the root of the caudal fin. At the mouth there are two barbels, now and then the eye has a red iris. With the Veil form the fins are extended longer.
You should keep the peaceful fish preferably in a Group from 5 animals, they can be easily socialized with other peaceful fish. However, you should avoid larger or more hectic fish, otherwise your darlings will become shy. You should rather do without dwarf shrimps, Dwarf crayfish but you can add dwarf crayfish. The bitterling barbs regulate friction within the species.
The aquarium should be at least 54 liters and be well planted in places, but make sure there is enough swimming space, because they are long-distance swimmers, but also want to retreat from time to time. Provide good infrastructure and some caves for your animals and maintain them in soft water.
As an omnivore, the bitterling barb will accept almost any food offered to it and can be fed dry food and flake food, but live food and frozen food such as mosquito larvae, cyclops, daphnia, artemia and tubifex may also enhance its diet. Usually it does not nibble on plants.
Our food recommendation: NatureHolic professional main feed is a professional main feed for all aquarium fish. We supply Hauptfeed in the form of soft granules, which, thanks to its grain size of half a millimeter, can be easily ingested by small to medium-sized fish. The soft consistency resembles the texture of insect larvae in nature and protects the fish mouth from micro-injuries.
Our plant recommendation: Use for planting NatureHolic InVitros. These are free of snails, planarians and other unwanted co-inhabitants. Also free of algae spores, bacteria and fungi.
Expert Tip: We recommend when keeping fish the NatureHolic 3 Phase Liquid. The care set offers the best all-round protection for your animals. It ensures optimal conditions for successful breeding and keeping.
