This variety of Java fern, Microsorum pteropus 'Windeløv', is named after the founder of the Tropica company, Holger Windeløv. The relatively broad intense green leaves terminate in finely fringed leaf tips. Microsorum pteropus 'Windeløv' originates from Asia, where it grows partly submerged, partly in splash water on wood and stones at the water's edge.
Java fern is considered to be an undemanding, easy to maintain plant and is also ideally suited for beginners. This perennial plant is at its best when placed on a stone or root. If it is planted in the ground, make sure that its horizontal rootstock is not covered so that it does not rot. On the other hand, the lateral, dark brown roots that grow out of the rhizome are allowed to grow into the substrate. Here the fern is already ready tied on a root.
Javafarn "Windeløv" reproduces in two ways - firstly, daughter plants are formed at the tips of the leaves, which detach and then continue to grow independently in the aquarium. On the other hand, you can also propagate Javafarn specifically by cutting off a piece of rhizome with at least one pair of two leaves on it and tying it up separately.
Even under low-intensity light, Windelov java fern still feels comfortable, so you can maintain it very well in low-tech aquariums. You can also grow it in aquaterrariums with high humidity, here it grows quite well even on the land part.
