from over 3,000 reviews "The zebra apple snail Asolene spixi is native to southeastern Brazil. It is also known as dwarf apple snail, striped apple snail or spixi snail. Since it does not belong to the genus Pomacea, it is not affected by the ban on these animals in the EU. It has a cream to light yellow shell with dark spiral thin stripes and a light, almost white body. With these colors the snail sets very nice accents in planted aquariums. It grows only about 3 centimeters in diameter and thus remains quite small for an apple snail.
Like all snails of its kind the Zebra Apple Snail eats not only algae, but also food remains, vegetables, carrion and detrius. Occasionally it has been reported to eat clutches of other snails as well. It keeps the aquarium clean through its natural feeding behavior and acts as a health police in the water. Our Zebra Apple Snails are absolute AlgaePlate fanatics and every now and then they get a plate of algae that can easily last a week in the tank.
They are active during the day and at night and sometimes burrow into the substrate. Although it moves relatively slowly and almost jerky, it is very assertive against other snail species and quite robust in the attitude.
Asolene spixi can besocialized very well with Dwarf shrimpother robust peaceful snails, and also with mussels and peaceful, not too curious fish.
The breeding of the Zebra Apple Snail is very simple. After mating, the female Asolene spixi lays her grape-shaped clutches, surrounded by a gelatinous mass, on aquatic plants or the aquarium glass. The inside of coconut burrows is also very popular for egg laying. After 3-4 weeks, fully developed snails hatch, which can be raised largely without problems. However, Zebra Apple Snails are not as prolific as for example Paradise Snails, an overpopulation of the aquarium is not to be feared. We are also constantly looking for German offspring and would be happy to take back snails. The sexes can be distinguished quite well with a little practice, the penis of the males sits as with all apple snails to the right of the head and is sometimes visible.

Schöne Schnecke. Eine allerdings recht klein. Kaum zu sehen, da sie sich in der Eingewöhnungsphase gerne einbuddeln.

Wir schicken bewusst junge Tiere an dennen sie lange freude haben werden. Es macht keinen Sinn die von unsern Züchtern aussorierten ausgewachsene Tiere zuzusenden die nur noch wenige Monate leben. Normalerweise buddeln sich Zebra Apfelschnecken nicht ein. Wir empfehlen einen großen Wasserwechsel.
