The beautiful veil fins make the striped veil zebrafish, Danio rerio "long fin" a very elegant aquarium fish. The beautiful schooling fish can be kept with a group of veil zebrafish as well as with normal-finned conspecifics. Even a socialization with the leopard danio, whether veil form or normal form, is possible.
The Veil Zebrafish is a breeding form of the Zebrafish, which has the same black-light pattern of longitudinal stripes on a silvery background as the normal form. Only the fins are significantly enlarged and look much more beautiful and elegant. The swimming zebra danio comes from India, Nepal and Bangladesh. In nature it lives in stagnant waters, it populates for example rice fields.
The Veil Zebrafish is a very adaptable, only 5 cm small, but very lively and swimming school ing fish. Due to its liveliness it needs an aquarium of at least 80 cm length, preferably more. Since it is very frugal, it is considered an ideal fish for newcomers to aquaristics. The fast swimmers like to jump, so the aquarium should be covered tightly. Plenty of free swimming space should be supplemented by dense plant groups, where the pretty aquarium fish can find cover.
This very lively, but peaceful and sociable schooling fish actually swims in the aquarium often even without stress in the shoal. It leaves its fellow fish and other aquarium companions largely in peace. Since it is quite surface-oriented, you can keep the Zebrabarfish well with larger shrimps such as Amanogarnelen . Dwarf crayfish would nip the veil variety in the long fins. You should not socialize the lively zebra danio with fish that are too calm, they could be stressed by its lively behavior.
Breeding the torpedo-shaped gray-silver ornamental fish is relatively easy. However, it is not so easy to tell the sexes apart - in general, however, it can be said that the females look much thicker and stouter than the very slender males, which are also somewhat more intensely colored.
Veil Zebrafish are free spawners and lay their eggs in open water where they sink into plant pads. Random breeding in a community aquarium is possible depending on the co-stocking, but for selective breeding you should set up a breeding pair in a separate aquarium. A spawning grid or many fine plant pads ensure the highest possible yield. Usually veil zebrafish spawn early in the morning. Larvae hatch after about 48 hours, and the larvae do not swim free for another 2 days. Feed the young Veil Zebrafish with fine live food such as slipper lizards, with NatureHolic Young Feed dust food and - when they are a bit bigger - also with Artemia nauplii.
Even though Veil Zebrafish occasionally tug at algae and eat plant-based diets, they need a varied, high-protein food that provides enough energy for these swim-loving guys. A high-quality dry food such as flake food and granulated food is gladly taken, and the Veil Zebrafish will not say no to live food and frozen food such as mosquito larvae, nauplii, daphnia and Artemia either.
Our food recommendation: NatureHolic professional main feed is a professional main feed for all aquarium fish. We supply Hauptfeed in the form of soft granules, which, thanks to its grain size of half a millimeter, can be easily ingested by small to medium-sized fish. The soft consistency resembles the texture of insect larvae in nature and protects the fish mouth from micro-injuries.
Our plant recommendation: For planting, use NatureHolic InVitros. These are free of snails, planarians and other unwanted co-inhabitants. Also free of algae spores, bacteria and fungi.
Expert Tip: We recommend when keeping fish the NatureHolic 3 Phase Liquid. The care set offers the best all-round protection for your animals. It ensures optimal conditions for successful breeding and keeping.
