from over 3,000 reviews "The zebra racing snail is a color form of Vittina turrita, which is one of the most imposing racing snails with a shell length averaging 2.5 to 3 cm. This variety has a very attractive pattern on its even shell, which gives it a very special appeal. The ground color of the shell ranges from an intense golden yellow to a light nut brown. A multitude of dark bands run through this hue, giving the Zebra Racing Snail its characteristic appearance. The zebra racing snail is bisexual, but there are no external characteristics by which to distinguish males from females.
In nature, these snails live mainly on hard substrates such as rocks and driftwood in the estuaries of flowing waters. There they are used to changing water values, so they can live in freshwater aquarium without any problems. The water should have a pH of 7.0 to 8.5 and be medium hard to hard.
Only for reproduction the snail larvae of the Zebra Racing Snail need salt water. They hatch after a few weeks from the egg cocoons, which the female deposits on hard substrates after fertilization. Egg cocoons are also deposited in the aquarium, which adhere very firmly and dissolve only with time. The tiny veliger larvae hatch from them in the tank as well, but they do not develop in freshwater. In captivity Vittina turrita has not yet been bred in captivity. So there is no need to worry about a snail plague even if the food supply is very good.
Like all racing snails, this species is an excellent algae eater, mainly taking care of algae cover and growth. Vittina turrita does not go to higher algae and plants, but it keeps, for example, the panes, roots plant leaves and decorative objects spotlessly clean. It also goes to food remains after a period of acclimatization, and vegetables such as dried Hokkaido pumpkin it also accepts relatively fast. Nevertheless, it is not suitable for freshly set up aquariums. If you want to do something good for weak snails that are stressed and starved from transport, it is recommended to feed them with Natureholic's snail food specially designed for growth-eating snails.
The zebra racing snail is a very peaceful and undemanding animal. Once it has adjusted to the conditions in the aquarium and coped with the stress of transport, it is extremely robust and long-lived. Vittina turrita in the aquarium can become very old. It gets along with most peaceful fish and invertebrate species. Even curious fish can't harm it, since they can't bother it thanks to its shell shape.
Zebra racing snails are not purely water snails and therefore also like to wander outside the aquarium. To prevent them from falling outside and drying out behind the aquarium cabinet, you should therefore ensure a tight cover or use our snail barrier.
Our food recommendation: With the Natureholic Snail Feed Power Paste you create a feeding lawn that is very well accepted by all aufwuchs feeding snails. Even delicate wild-caught snails such as racing snails or staghorn snails, which are stressed after transport and do not take to conventional food, can be fed up well with it.
Our plant recommendation: Use for the planting NatureHolic InVitros. These are free of snails, planarians and other unwanted co-inhabitants. Also free of algae spores, bacteria and fungi.
Expert Tip: We recommend for fish keeping the NatureHolic 3 Phase Liquid. The care set offers the best all-round protection for your animals. It ensures optimal conditions for successful breeding and keeping.
Actively prevent outbreaks: With the invisible Natureholic Snail Barrier you prevent the escape and loss of your snails from the aquarium.
