Dwarf spear leaf multi-shoot - Anubias barteri nana - Dennerle pot

The popular and less demanding dwarf spear leaf Anubias barteri var. nana is ideal for the foreground to middle ground with its slow growth and small dark green leaves. Anubias grow best as perching plants tied up on roots or stones. Plant them in the ground and their rootstock may rot. Anubias nana even blooms under water from time to time.

The hard-leaved dwarf spear leaf can be used very well in a perch tank, the plant is spurned by most herbivorous fish. Anubias barteri var. nana also thrives in shady places or under low light.

Propagation is straightforward: cut off a piece of the thick rootstock and make sure there are two or more leaves on each piece - this way the offshoot will continue to grow without problems.

Anubias barteri var. nana is also suitable for emerse keeping in humid terrariums or in the paludarium.
