"Fresh wind" for the aquarium with aerator pumps

The outflowing air bubbles enrich the water with oxygen and they provide a stronger surface movement and thus a better gas exchange. CO2 can escape and oxygen diffuses better into the aquarium water. This increases the oxygen content of the water in the aquarium in two ways - good for the inhabitants! This is particularly important in summer when it is hot and the oxygen content of the water drops, but also when the fish are being treated with medication, for example against white spot disease.

Especially in heavily planted aquariums, permanent additional aeration overnight has proven to be effective - at night the plants do not produce oxygen, they need light for this. However, as living organisms with an active metabolism, aquarium plants also consume oxygen, and this can become a problem, especially in the dark, and lead to an oxygen shortage in the aquarium. This can be effectively counteracted with the use of an aerator pump and a bubbling stone.

Even the popular decorative colorful figures for the aquarium that move are powered by an air pump. This allows the diver to wave or the fish to stand up, the treasure chest to open and the seal to wag its fin.

Sponge filters, hamburger mat filters and also bottom filters can be well operated with an airlift, for this you then also need an air pump.

If the changing water is moved with an aerator pump, any chlorine present in the tap water is expelled and can then no longer harm the aquarium inhabitants.

Good in case of power failure: A battery-powered aerator pump for the aquarium ensures that your fish and shrimp do not run out of air even in the event of a blackout and that the water continues to be moved and enriched with oxygen - this is of great importance not only for the inhabitants, but also for the filter bacteria that break down pollutants! Therefore, a battery-powered air pump should not be missing in any aquarium cabinet. It can save your valuable stock in case of emergency.

The start-up of an aerator pump is quite simple - make sure that the pump stands horizontally. If it is too loud for you, put a thick mat under it: Foam rubber, but also an aquarium pad is suitable here. This way, vibrations are less transmitted to the substrate.

Attach the soft 4/6 air hose to the connection on the pump and connect the other end to the part to be operated with air - i.e. the outflow stone, the airlift, the bottom filter or the decoration. Of course, the pump is located outside the aquarium. Please make sure that the air pump is placed higher than the water level in the aquarium. This way no water can creep back in the air hose and damage the pump. If it is not possible for the air pump to be above the tank, be sure to install a backflow preventer, also called a backflow prevent er or check valve, in the hose to prevent damage. If the aerator pump becomes noisy or its performance decreases, you should first check whether the hose is not kinked and whether the return fuse has been installed the right way round (you can recognize the direction of flow by an arrow-shaped marking). You will often find a piece of fleece on the side or bottom of the flow-through pump to keep dust out. If it is dirty, please clean it or replace it. Then the pump can work again with full power.
