Wet terrariums, paludariums and aquaterrariums

A humid terrarium is also called a rainforest terrarium or tropical terrarium. As in the "real" tropics, the humidity in the glass container is very high. Basically, you keep here terrarium animals that need a high humidity and a relatively constant temperature of 25-28 °C. The humidity is kept high with nebulizers, possibly also a small water part, a well moist but not gumming terrarium floor like coconut fiber, on which also a layer of leaves or bark comes well. Also a back wall of coconut fiber mats comes well in the wet terrarium as a water reservoir.

An aquaterrarium, also called a paludarium, on the other hand, has a much larger water section where you can even keep smaller aquatic animals like shrimp or snails. However, the boundaries are fluid here - what passes for a wet terrarium for some is already an aquaterrarium for others.

In addition to a nice substrate, it is always important to offer the frogs, crabs and land hermits in the aquaterrarium or rainforest terrarium opportunities to climb - for this purpose, you will find a rich selection of terrarium roots to buy here in the store. Whether driftwood or various bonsai trees>/a>, large terrarium trunks such as our Wood trunk or entire forests in various designs - here you buy everything that is suitable for your aquaterrarium, paludarium or rainforest terrarium as a climbing opportunity. Also aquarium stones

Depending on the stocking, a beautiful planting in the wet terrarium is also possible - orchids, ferns and special terrarium plants but also various aquarium plants that can be kept both above and under water, make an aquaterrarium or wet terrarium a great eye-catcher. Anubias, bucephalandra and the various stem plants for the aquarium offer you perfect options for designing the terrarium here.

Various terrarium animals

A wet terrarium or paludarium with water part can be occupied in different ways. Of course, there are always terrarium animals that occupy a corresponding habitat in nature - rather warm and with high humidity, usually near water. For reproduction many inhabitants of classical paludariums, aquaterrariums or wet terrariums often need water - freshwater or seawater.

Frogs

Frogs are classic inhabitants for wet terrariums. Here you can buy different frogs for terrarium, attractive colorful horned frogs or pacman frogs. They are usually kept individually, because they are very territorial.

Crabs

Crabs are classic inhabitants for an aquaterrarium. Many species like to take a correspondingly large water part to bathe their feet (or the whole crab body). Depending on the origin this water part should contain fresh water or salt water, there are also crabs that need both. Many crabs like to eat plants very much - here you should always fill the aquaterrarium with new plants. Others like the beautiful and very colorful land crabs of the genus Geosesarma, on the other hand, do not eat plants at all and are therefore wonderfully suitable candidates for a great planted tropical terrarium. With crabs it depends strongly on the species - they are partly loners, partly they need the company of conspecifics. Mangrove crabs and land crabs maintain a lively social life and should therefore always be kept in the company of conspecifics.

Land hermits

Land hermits are fascinating crustaceans, often attractively brightly colored and interesting in appearance. They protect their abdomen with a snail shell and, despite their rather cumbersome and bizarre appearance, are skilled climbers that are great fun to keep in the terrarium. Land hermits are also very social group animals and should not be kept singly.
