Hiding places made of clay are attractive shelters for shrimps, dwarf crayfish, crayfish and crabs. Their slightly porous surface also provides an optimal settlement area for bacteria. Shrimps love to eat the resulting biofilms, and pollutant-degrading filter bacteria also find a home here. They destroy ammonia and nitrite in the water and convert these potentially dangerous substances into the more harmless nitrate.

If you choose a ceramic cave planted with moss, this effect is even more potent. The moss offers these bacteria a significantly larger surface area and the shrimp, of course, significantly more grazing grounds. Dwarf crayfish also like to hide in dense moss cushions, as do newly hatched shrimp babies.

If you want to feed your baby shrimp specifically, draw up a syringe with a mixture of water and NatureHolic Babyfeed shrimp dust food and inject this mixture into the moss cushion. This way the baby shrimp will find masses of good food, and the dust food will catch in the fine moss threads and not be swallowed by the filter right away.

The clay used for the production of our ceramic hiding places is water neutral and does not harden.

The ceramic hiding places in this category are potted by hand in Germany and also lovingly planted with moss in pure manual labor - here you buy real unique specimens! Thanks to the finely structured and embossed clay surface, the mosses quickly take root and grow firmly even on the surface. After some time, the moss cushions need to be trimmed a little with scissors. To do this, it is best to remove the overgrown cave from the aquarium after carefully letting any inhabitants out - to do this, it is best to sway the ceramic hiding place in the water.

The moss makes the hiding places look wonderfully natural and fits perfectly into a natural aquarium. Also in a terrarium with high humidity, the caves planted with moss can be used excellently, most of the mosses can also grow emers.
