from over 3,000 reviews "The spherical sea urchin is an easy-care candidate that can be maintained from 50 liters. Scientifically called Mespilla globulus, it once came from Australia, the Indian Ocean, but is also found in the Indo-Pacific as far as Thailand. The spiny sea water dweller is considered to be sociable in care and is therefore also suitable for beginners in the salty hobby.
With a size of 6-7 cm it remains somewhat smaller than other sea urchin species. It feeds mainly on algae, detritus and debris, but also on coral polyps and zoobenthos. Breeding in the aquarium is probably not possible. As with all sea urchin species, the spherical sea urchin should never have contact with air, so it should be submerged under water along with its transport container and inserted.
Spherical sea urchins react poorly to medication cures in the aquarium and may even die from it. They tend to camouflage themselves with bits of substrate, algae, and even pieces of coral, making them look extremely posh
Expert Tip: When keeping fish we recommend the NatureHolic 3 Phase Liquid. The care set offers the best all-round protection for your animals. It ensures optimal conditions for successful breeding and keeping.
