The Golden Pufferfish, also called Chonerhinus modestus or Auriglobus modestus, is a beautiful freshwater fish that originated in Southeast Asia and is most common in Indonesia. It is known for its golden-yellow coloring on the sides, which gives it its name.
If you decide to add a Golden Pufferfish to your aquarium, you should know that these fish should be kept individually. They can grow up to 15 inches and have been known to attack and even kill other fish. For this reason, they should not be kept in pairs or groups, nor should they be socialized with other species in an aquarium. For the species-appropriate keeping of a Golden Pufferfish you need an aquarium with a filling volume of at least 350 l.
Golden Pufferfish are adaptable to various water conditions and can be kept in aquariums with soft to hard water as long as the temperature is between 22-26° Celsius and the pH is between 7.0-7.5. The hardness range should be around 10 dGH.
For feeding your Golden Pufferfish, frozen food, live food and dry food are suitable. Especially snails, crabs and worms are eaten as a treat. Unfortunately, there is no usable information on whether it is possible to breed Golden Pufferfish in the aquarium.
Golden pufferfishes belong to the genus Chonerhinos and there are five related species, three of which can be kept in aquariums.
