Density meter for marine aquariums
- Precision glass spindle and measuring vessel for measuring salinity (density) in seawater aquariums
- Convenient handling: fill the test vessel halfway with seawater, insert the clean hydrometer, read the density after 1 minute.
- Reading accuracy of 0.0005 units, making it suitable for scientific purposes. Density reading range of 1.016-1.028 (recommended range: 1.021-1.025)
- Thermometer and built-in temperature correction scale from 9 to 32 °C. Transport cylinder (height 33.5 cm) serves as measuring vessel
- Scope of delivery: 1 density meter (hydrometer) for seawater with built-in thermometer + measuring vessel with stable stand
Nature at home - home for fish and plants
Lower animals and corals should feel as comfortable in the aquarium as they do in nature. This includes the right water values, the right light, a varied and species-appropriate diet and, of course, the right salt content in the marine aquarium.
Density in the marine aquarium
When the aquarium water evaporates, salts remain which increase the density in the aquarium. To prevent fish and invertebrates from being harmed by this, the density should be checked regularly and the appropriate steps taken.
Temperature dependence of density:
At 25 °C hydrometers indicate exactly the correct density. At higher temperatures, a correction factor must be taken into account, which is indicated in the JBL hydrometer on a scale next to the built-in thermometer: at e.g. 30 °C, 0.001 must be added to the indicated density of e.g. 1.022. The correct density at 30 °C would therefore be 1.023. For water temperatures below 25 °C, a correction factor must be subtracted, e.g. at 20 °C 0.001 would have to be subtracted from the displayed density value. So if this is 1.025, the true density at 20 °C is 1.025 minus 0.001 = 1.024. For a water temperature in cold seawater aquariums of 15 °C, a correction of -2.5 ° must be made.
Aräo or Aero?
The syllable Aräo comes from the Greek and means "thin". In connection with "meter" (Greek: scale) it means "thin scale/thin spindle".
The prefix aero, on the other hand, means "air" or "belonging to the air", such as "aerodynamic" = streamlined/offering little resistance to the air
