L028 Angelfish - Hypancistrus sp

The Angelfish (Hypancistrus spec.), also known as L028, is a popular aquarium fish from South America. It grows between 10 cm and 12 cm and makes few demands on the tank, which is why it is also suitable for beginners. The bottom dweller likes to live in company with other fish and conspecifics. The females are easily distinguished by their broader belly and the males by their pronounced spines on the pectoral fins.

Breeding in the aquarium is uncomplicated, for which there should be caves in the aquarium. The female lays up to 60 yellow eggs in them, which are then guarded by the male until they hatch. The young can then be raised on frozen or live food.

Angelfish are very peaceful animals and can be socialized well with other fish and shrimp as long as they are also peaceful. However, it is important that they have sufficient retreat possibilities, since they are shy. The aquarium should therefore be well planted and have more caves and hiding places than catfish live in the aquarium.
