The uncomplicated to keep and very robust spear leaf Anubias barteri from Africa was tied here on a root. This posture is optimal for this perching plant, whose rhizome can even begin to rot in the substrate. It is ideal for the middle ground, the root can be flexibly placed and quickly moved if necessary.
This combination is also wonderful for a humid terrarium or paludarium. Anubias can be grown very well emersed, if the air is humid enough.
With its dark green leaves, spear leaf is a welcome contrast to light green or medium green plants in the background, it sets beautiful accents.
Propagating spear leaves is quite simple: all you need is a pair of scissors to cut off a piece of the rhizome, which should still have two or more leaves attached. This piece, in turn, you tie back on.
With its slow growth rate and firm leaves that are unattractive to herbivores, this Anubias barteri is exceptionally well suited to all sorts of aquarium styles. As a shade plant, it needs little light and is also otherwise very frugal and robust.
