Feeding aquarium fish properly - cheap food and what it can do

Many aquarium fish are fobbed off with the cheapest food, which provides them with the most necessary for survival, but is neither healthy nor effective. Incorrectly formulated cheap food is not digested well, and the nutrient-rich fecal remains can even be responsible for algae plagues and snail infestations. Allergies can occur and even the smallest injuries to the fish, especially in the mouth area. We at NatureHolic thought we should do something about it!

The protein-fat ratio

Often cheap fish foods are not optimally composed. If the ratio of fat to protein in the fish food is not right, the fish's metabolism is unnecessarily stressed because it has to eliminate unused nutrients that cannot be utilized. In particular, an unfavorable protein-fat ratio causes the fish to excrete more protein. The unused nutrients in the fish's excretions benefit the other utilizers in the aquarium, for example the snails or the algae. Many nutrients mean a strong reproduction - and so it can also come to a snail plague or algae plague in the aquarium, although perhaps not too much was fed in terms of quantity!

The proteins in the fish feces are metabolized by bacteria in the aquarium to ammonium and to toxic ammonia. If the concentration of ammonia is too high, the fish can die, a permanent low ammonia load can make the fish sick.

Good fish food

A good fish food for aquarium fish must therefore have an optimal ratio of protein to fat so that the fish can make the best use of the nutrients. High quality oils and fats in fish food are vital for energy production and should always be present in a proportion of at least 10%. Especially marine animals are good sources of proteins and valuable oils, which are very rich in unsaturated fatty acids, especially omega3 fatty acids. We make sure that NatureHolic's various fish foods contain the protein to fat ratio recommended by scientists of  3.2:1. This means a lower water impact with much better nutritional value.

Consistency

Cheap granules can injure the delicate mouths of ornamental fish in the aquarium when they feed. Flake food can also have sharp edges at times, which can also pose a risk of injury. Microcracks on the mouth where fungi or bacteria settle can lead to illness in the fish, such as fungal infections.

Soft soft pearls

Thanks to a special manufacturing process, NatureHolic fish food beads are ultrasoft. Their soft consistency resembles that of insect larvae, flies, worms and other food sources in nature 1 to 1. Here there is no risk of injury, and the fish can feed as in their natural biotopes.

The ingredients

Last but not least, cheap feeds like to save money on the ingredients. Do the smell test! Cheap fish food often smells quite unpleasant, and the use of red mosquito larvae, for example, can even cause nasty allergies in humans. So that the fish eat the inferior stuff nevertheless, with artificial flavors and attractants strongly after-helped - but the fodder becomes unfortunately nevertheless not healthier. Greedy fish are therefore no sign of the quality of a fish feed!

The smell test

The smell test of the NatureHolic fish feeds on the other hand is revealing. The high quality food pearls smell strong, but not unpleasant, but aromatic. Quality you can smell. Make the comparison!

See, smell and feel the difference - and the most important: your fish will taste it!

All our NatureHolic fish foods for ornamental fish in aquariums are made with high quality, fresh ingredients. As a result, they have a high nutrient density and extremely low crude ash content. This food can be completely utilized by the fish and therefore does not pollute the water. The food pearls are broken down in a special manufacturing process and are therefore soft like insect larvae - here there are no micro injuries to the fish mouth. With NatureHolic only the best quality comes into the can.

The result of this high quality fish food: crystal clear water, less mulm, a healthy ecosystem and lively fish that show their most beautiful colors and most interesting behaviors in your aquarium.
