Not only for the aquarium, but also for the emerse cultivation in the aquaterrarium or also in the paludarium with high humidity is the Anubias barteri var.barteri prima suitable. In its habitat, this Anubias is mainly found in the splash zone of fast flowing waters, where it benefits from the splash water, but sometimes also tolerates flooding. Therefore, it is also an excellent aquarium plant, but it grows quite slowly, but still relatively fast of all its species.
Anubias barteri var. barteri reproduces via a rootstock, the so-called rhizome, and is a perching plant that grows well even in partial shade. Therefore, it should not be planted in the gravel or the soil, so that this does not begin to rot. It is best to plant the Anubias on a hard substrate such as roots or stones, from where it will simply continue to grow. For propagation, a piece of the rhizome with three leaves can be cut off and reattached.
Due to the thick leaves, which also taste bitter, this great Anubias is also ideal for Malawi or Tanganyika perch tanks. Unlike other Anubias species, the rhizome does not always grow along the substrate, but also vertically upwards in places.
Our recommendation: For magnificent plant growth, we recommend Premium Nutrient Soil when setting up a new plant: NatureHolic GroundBooster.
