Dwarf pearlwort - Hemianthus callitrichoides on lava stone !

Cuba dwarf pearlwort, also called Hemianthus callitrichoides, originates from Cuba (Central America). Its beautiful light green color and small size have quickly helped it to triumph in aquaristics. This low-growing plant with its creeping habit is an ideal ground cover in the foreground of a planted aquarium.

The dwarf pearlwort has been tied up here with nylon thread on a lava stone, which is simply placed in the aquarium (possibly digging it in a little). This allows the plant to grow and root in the aquarium in peace without being disturbed by digging snails.

Hemianthus callitrichoides should be cut back at regular intervals to keep it nice and low and maintain its bushy growth. Propagation is possible by dividing the plant clumps or by using cut shoots as head cuttings.

Here you get a vigorous plant from a nursery, not a wild take. Due to the special cultivation, no watering is necessary before use in the shrimp aquarium.
