The Green Leporinus is a real eye-catcher in any aquarium. The dark cross bands and its agile swimming make it a visual feast for the eyes of any observer. With a size of up to 30 cm it should have enough space in the aquarium. For keeping Leporinus fasciatus we recommend small groups of at least 5-10 fish, as individual animals are often aggressive towards their fellow inhabitants. Spacious, plant-free water tanks with a capacity of at least 600 liters are ideal for this species and can be furnished with large roots and other decorative elements.
The Green Leporinus feeds primarily on plant foods and will readily eat duckweed, lettuce, and leaves from aquatic plants. For variety, it can occasionally be fed frozen animal food. In captivity it gets along well with other large South American fish such as disc tetras, large cichlids and catfish.
The sexes of Leporinus fasciatus are difficult to distinguish, and breeding in aquaria has not yet been successful. In the wild, the fish spawn freely and do not engage in brood care. With proper care and feeding, a Green Leporinus, also known as a Striped Leporinus, can live over 10 years.
We supply these beautiful fish at approximately 6-8 inches in size. Provide adequate space and a varied diet to experience these unique animals in their full glory.
Our food recommendation: The NatureHolic Main Feed is a professional staple food for all aquarium fish. We supply Hauptfeed in the form of soft granules, which, thanks to its grain size of half a millimeter, can be easily ingested by small to medium-sized fish. The soft consistency resembles the texture of insect larvae in nature and protects the fish mouth from micro-injuries.
Our plant recommendation: Use for planting NatureHolic InVitros. These are free of snails, planarians and other unwanted co-inhabitants. Also free of algae spores, bacteria and fungi.
Expert Tip: We recommend when keeping fish the NatureHolic 3 Phase Liquid. The care set offers the best all-round protection for your animals. It ensures optimal conditions for successful breeding and keeping.
