from over 3,000 reviews "The Oofuchi Koi Farm is located in the middle of the mountains of Niigata in Japan and has specialized in particularly high-quality and quite large Nishikigoi. With these animals you set the highest standards in koi breeding and can also choose your favorites from different varieties. Koi can live up to 60 years if well cared for and will therefore be your loyal companions for a long time if you take good care of them.
You get one Oofuchi Japankoi in the Size 35-40 cmwhich you can choose from these Variants from these variants: Goromo, Kohaku, Sanke.
Your animals get their strength from the community, which is why you should maintain them with at least four other koi, which have approximately the same size. The variety plays a subordinate role. We recommend a water volume of 1-2 m³ per animal, or at least 12-15,000 liters of water. The pond for your pets should also have a very good filtration and a correspondingly good water quality. Therefore, test the pond water regularly to prevent potential problems.
To prevent the pond from freezing, your gem should have a minimum depth of 1.2 meters, more likely 2 meters. The Koi rest at the bottom of the pond during the winter and should not be disturbed by by-fish, such as sturgeon. Koi can be taken out of the pond in late autumn and overwintered in a cold-water aquarium, for example, but keeping them outdoors has a more positive effect on their development. With pond oxydators or aerators , the pond can also be prepared in such a way that there is always enough oxygen dissolved in the water, which is essential especially in summer.
Rudd and roach are excellent by-fish for the koi pond. Among other things, they can be fed with the same food and better tolerate the medications that are necessary in some places. Grass carp, tench, gudgeon, moderlieschen or orf can also be added. Sunfish, sticklebacks or bitterlings, however, are rather unsuitable co-fish for the Koi.
As omnivores, your Japan Koi, like all carps, will dig in the pond mud and stir up mulm. In doing so, they eat small crustaceans, insects, worms and leeches. However, they can occasionally be spoiled with treats such as silkworms or mealworms. As herbivores, they also like to nibble on soft foliage, so pond plants need to be reseeded now and then. With reeds or bulrushes in the sump zone, however, the necessary plant vegetation can be provided, and these are usually left alone. With over-broiled vegetables you can surprise your animals from time to time, but to ensure that they take in enough nutrients, we recommend feeding them with a food designed for their needs, which is also based on the season.
