from over 3,000 reviews "The Argentine cockroach (Blaptica dubia) is one of the most popular food insects due to its easy keeping and breeding. They grow to 4-4.5 cm long, the winged males grow to about 2 cm wide, and the unwinged females are even more plump.
Argentine cockroaches are readily accepted by almost all reptiles as a good live food alternative to crickets and grasshoppers. Feeding Argentine wood roaches provides valuable variety to their diet.
Since the males of this cockroach do not call, there is no noise disturbance in the cage or in the terrarium if not all cockroaches are eaten immediately.
The Argentine wood cockroach does not reproduce in the home because the environment in living quarters is much too dry, too cool and not nutritious enough for egg laying. To reproduce, these cockroaches need well-moist places with plenty of food. If an Argentine wood cockroach does escape, it usually starves to death after some time.
Keeping the Argentine cockroach is quite simple: fill a plastic box of 40x40x50 cm with placed egg cartons and provide two food trays. The lid should be made of aluminum fly screen for better ventilation. Ready is your small cockroach breeding station. Because the Argentine cockroach feels most comfortable at 26-28°C, you should place the breeding box on a heating mat if necessary. Temperatures below 18 and above 33°C are deadly for the valuable food animals.
Feed the Argentine cockroaches with commercial dry food for dogs or cats. Wheat bran and vegetables and fruits are also good. The cockroaches like to eat scraps such as cucumber peels, carrot peels, sections of zucchini, apples, salad scraps, etc.
You should remove uneaten fresh food after some time, so that no mold forms or mites settle.
