from over 3,000 reviews "Thanks to the ReefBuffer from Seachem, pH and carbonate hardness can be quickly and safely increased and adjusted in the reef aquarium. The innovative mixture consists of carbonate and bicarbonate salts and stabilizes the pH value to 8.3.
The pK of a buffering agent corresponds to the pH around which it exerts the greatest effect on the buffer. Therefore, it is assumed that the pK of a salt fiber buffer should be 8.3. However, the acids excreted and produced by the reef inhabitants will push the pH down more than in a pure fish aquarium without a reef. Therefore, a buffer with a pK of 8.3 would give a pH of 8.0-8.2. The higher pK in ReefBuffer therefore allows for better pH stability, but also increases carbonate hardness. If the pH is in the optimal range, Reef Builder or Reef Carbonate, also available in the store, are more recommended.
Application: Test the pH of the water before use. Use 5 g (about 1 teaspoon) to 150 liters of water to raise the pH by 0.1 units. Dissolve the powder in 250 ml of fresh water before dosing. The ideal pH in a marine aquarium is 8.25-8.3, so pH adjustment may be required twice a week. Adjust the dose according to the test results obtained and avoid overdosing.
Note: If optimal carbonate hardness has been achieved, but pH is still below 8.2, or water turbidity occurs that does not dissipate within 15 minutes, an ion imbalance may be present. In this case, perform a water change or adjust the magnesium-calcium level to 3:1. Do not mix Reef Buffer with other additives at the same time.
