The Gasteropelecus sternicla is a freshwater fish native to the Amazon, Guyana and Suriname and ranges in size from 2 to 4 cm in its delivery size. It reaches up to 6 cm in its final size and requires an aquarium with a capacity of at least 100 liters.
The ideal pH in the aquarium is between 6 and 7.2, while the hardness range should be 5 to 15° dGH. The Gasteropelecus sternicla prefers a temperature between 22 and 27 degrees Celsius. It is a schooling fish that feeds on live, frozen, granulated and flake foods.
In their natural habitat they feed carnivorously, i.e. mainly on animal food. Gasteropelecus sternicla is a free spawner and does not engage in brood care, but releases their eggs and sperm freely into the aquarium. To meet their needs, the aquarium should have sand for substrate and roots, and aquarium plants reaching the surface for hiding or retreat.
Floating plants that dim the light are also important. Gasteropelecus sternicla prefers the upper area of the aquarium and a weak current is ideal.
Our food recommendation: The NatureHolic Main Feed is a professional staple food for all aquarium fish. We supply Hauptfeed in the form of soft granules, which, thanks to its grain size of half a millimeter, can be easily ingested by small to medium-sized fish. The soft consistency resembles the texture of insect larvae in nature and protects the fish mouth from micro-injuries.
Our plant recommendation: Use for planting NatureHolic InVitros. These are free of snails, planarians and other unwanted co-inhabitants. Also free of algae spores, bacteria and fungi.
Expert Tip: We recommend when keeping fish the NatureHolic 3 Phase Liquid. The care set offers the best all-round protection for your animals. It ensures optimal conditions for successful breeding and keeping.
