Yellow Congo Tetra are fascinating ornamental fish that will inspire you. Also called Alestopetersius caudalis, these tetras originate from the Congo Basin in Central Africa. There it mainly inhabits the lower Congo along with its tributaries. These very clear flowing waters carry soft and slightly acidic water. Their breeding in the aquarium is quite possible.
Your darlings show an elongated physique with flat sides. In the age especially the males develop a high back. In the basic coloration the animals are yellowish and can shimmer bluish. The yellow caudal fin is striking, in which the elongated lateral line ends in black and also forms a tip. The dorsal fins are elongated. Salmertypically, they also have an adipose fin between the back and the caudal fin. Males grow to about seven inches long, while females remain a bit smaller.
Because they derive their strength from the group, you should best keep them together with several conspecifics. Offer them a tank of at least 200 liters, which you provide with a dark substrate. You can also dim the lighting or use floating plants. Place the plants at the edge and in the background and make sure that there is enough free swimming space. At the beginning your Congo Tetras can be a bit shy.
A socialization with other peaceful fish that can cope with the water parameters of the Congo Tetras is quite possible. For this you can rely on other tetras, danios or even catfish. If you want to breed your favorites, a spawning tank with humic substances is recommended. With live food you can optimally prepare the breeding pair for spawning. Remove the animals after spawning, which lay up to 200 eggs. You can raise the young with dust food like our BabyFeed or Artemia nauplii.
Your omnivores feed on dry and flake food, but also on small live and frozen food.
Our food recommendation: NatureHolic professional main feed is a professional main feed for all aquarium fish. We supply Hauptfeed in the form of soft granules, which, thanks to its grain size of half a millimeter, can be easily absorbed by small to medium-sized fish. The soft consistency resembles the texture of insect larvae in nature and protects the fish mouth from micro-injuries.
Our plant recommendation: Use for planting NatureHolic InVitros. These are free of snails, planarians and other unwanted co-inhabitants. Also free of algae spores, bacteria and fungi.
Expert Tip: We recommend when keeping fish the NatureHolic 3 Phase Liquid. The care set offers the best all-round protection for your animals. It ensures optimal conditions for successful breeding and keeping.
