JUWEL Aquarium: A chronicle of innovation and quality

1966

In 1966, the Köhlmoos brothers developed a groundbreaking innovation in aquarium construction: the first aquarium with an aluminium frame. Until then, aquariums had been built with a hammer-finished steel angle frame. The aluminium frame was not only more stable, but also much lighter and more durable than the previous frames.

1968

In 1968, the Köhlmoos brothers presented a groundbreaking innovation in the world of aquariums: the first aquarium with an integrated cover and lighting built into it. Until then, aquarists had to install the lighting on their own and the cover was often a separate part that was not optimally matched to the aquarium. With this innovation, JUWEL Aquarium was able to improve the aquarium experience for aquarists all over the world, as the aquarium was now offered as a complete system that was perfectly coordinated.

1969

In 1969, the Köhlmoos brothers officially founded JUWEL Aquarium GmbH & Co KG and entered the company in the commercial register. This foundation laid the foundation for one of the leading brands in the field of aquaristics.

1970

In 1970 JUWEL introduced another revolution in the construction of aquariums: instead of the previously used mastic, silicone was now used for bonding. JUWEL produced the first aquariums with silicone bonding, which had the advantage of being more durable and denser than the previous aquariums. In addition, the safety frame was introduced, which ensured that JUWEL aquariums could be set up safely and insensitively.

1982

In 1982 JUWEL developed the world's first waterproof cover light for aquariums. This innovation was an important milestone for the aquarium industry, as there was no way to safely and effectively install lighting over an aquarium before. JUWEL was the first manufacturer of aquarium lights to receive the GS mark for tested safety awarded by TÜV Rheinland, underlining the company's commitment to the highest quality and safety.

1984

In 1984 JUWEL produced the first aquariums without side profiles, with the top and bottom frames made of plastic. This innovation in design and production was considered a minor revolution. The absence of the side profiles gave the aquarium a more modern and slender appearance, while the plastic frame was more durable and resistant to moisture. The new aquariums without side profiles were also easier to assemble and clean.

1990

In 1990 JUWEL introduced the complete aqu arium, equipped with an integrated heater, the patented JUWEL filter system and lighting. This combination of components enabled aquarists to purchase an aquarium with all the necessary functions in one package, which made setting up and operating an aquarium much easier. With this innovation, JUWEL was able to further expand its position as a leading manufacturer of aquariums.

2018

In 2018 and the following year 2019, JUWEL Aquarium was again awarded the prestigious Brand of the Year Award in the "Animals" category. This was the second year in a row that the company received this award. Through this recognition, JUWEL Aquarium once again joined the world of great brands.
