The Skyfish Golden Boa Grade SS is an extremely beautiful, perfectly marked color variation of the Boa dwarf shrimp from the successful breeder Skyfish from Taiwan. This very special shrimp with the snake-like pattern is the next grade of Galaxy Fishbone. These shrimp have an attractive, extremely wide gold colored dorsal stripe. On the head carapace and also partially on the body, the dorsal stripe breaks up into a finer pattern. The Golden Boa has a base color of black - a pure, very deep black.
The Golden Boa is a hybrid shrimp, which is bred from different shrimp species. It reaches a body length of 2-3 cm, with females growing larger than males. The patterning and their tremendously deep color density are something very special. You can buy these very popular dwarf shrimp from us as single specimen in Grade SS, the very highest quality grade with an unbelievable color depth and color coverage.
Differentiating the sexes of the Skyfish Golden Boa is not as easy as with transparent shrimp, because you cannot see the egg spot on the unusually well colored females. If they carry eggs, the sex can of course be clearly determined. Adult females usually have a much more robust body structure than the more delicate males, and in them the second abdominal segment is often much wider at the bottom - the tiger scoop.
Skyfish Golden Boa shrimp want soft aquarium water. The pH should be below neutral. In our facility at Garnelio, we have these Caridina sp. from Skyfish on active soil in salted osmosis water at a conductance of 250 microsiemens and a pH of slightly below seven. Plenty of oxygen and the lowest possible microbial load in the water are critical. Proper filtration keeps the organic load in the shrimp aquarium low. Since Golden Boa Shrimp do not like high nitrate levels at all, they should definitely not be considered for fertilized planted aquariums. Skyfish Golden Boa Shrimp should be kept in an aquarium of 20 liters or more. Active Soil has proven to be the best aquarium substrate for these spectacular animals for many breeders. This substrate automatically adjusts the water values to be suitable for shrimp from soft water.
Usually tap water is not well suited for Skyfish Golden Boa shrimp in terms of composition, because they need very soft water. Experienced breeders therefore keep these shrimp in treated osmosis water or in treated water from a demineralizer. It is hardened with a mineral salt, which does not influence the carbonate hardness, but only raises the total hardness - such a salt can be recognized by the name addition GH+. You can buy these mineral salts in our store. These high breeding shrimps need a water temperature of 20 to 25 degrees in the aquarium. If the temperatures rise too much in summer, you should cool down the water with an aquarium cooler.
For planting we recommend topdressers like bucephalandra or moss. These plants are tied on stones or glued with plant glue. These plants can be easily removed from the breeding tank if you want to get an overview or select the shrimp by color and pattern. We do not recommend breeding tanks without any plants at all, because the shrimp will find additional growth to graze on and also hiding places.
Skyfish Golden Boa shrimp are ideally kept and bred in a species tank without fish community. Species from the group around Caridina cantonensis like the Bee Shrimp, Tangerine Tiger, Aura Blue, Tiger Shrimp or Caridina serrata and also hybrid breeds from these species interbreed with the Skyfish Golden Boa Dwarf Shrimp, which affects color coverage and pattern in the offspring. Snails often don't really live long in soft water, so we don 't necessarily find them suitable for a tank with Golden Boa shrimp. Some successful breeders use shiner worms or Tubifex as an alternative as a clean-up troop and soil loosener in the breeding aquarium. These worms apparently do not mind the soft water, and they also serve as live food and species-appropriate protein source forthe shrimp.
The breeding of the Skyfish Golden Boa shrimp is possible in fresh water. When the animals have all their requirements met, the females attach 15-30 eggs to their swimming legs, which they nurse for between 4 and 6 weeks. The young are immediately independent after hatching.
Skyfish Golden Boa shrimp are typical growth eaters, but also like vegetable food such as green dried walnut leaves or scalded nettle leaves. A suitable permanent food and a good source of tannins are brown autumn leaves or small pieces of sea almond tree leaves. Tannins can help shrimp during molting. These Caridina shrimp are omnivores, so you should give the Golden Boa a protein-rich food once or twice a week, such as Skyfish Shrimp Food S3. Also live food like Artemianauplia is a good source of protein and can be given from time to time instead of artificial food.
Our food recommendation: The soft Mainfeed Softpads from NatureHolic are designed for daily feeding. They contain all the nutrients shrimp need for shell development, egg formation and growth. During the production we pay attention to a gentle and environmentally friendly production, in which the vitamins and other valuable ingredients are preserved as much as possible.
Our plant recommendation: Use for planting NatureHolic InVitros. These are free of snails, planaria and other unwanted co-inhabitants. Also free of algae spores, bacteria and fungi.
Expert Tip: We recommend for fish keeping the NatureHolic 3 Phase Liquid. The care set offers the best all-round protection for your animals. It ensures optimal conditions for successful breeding and keeping.
