from over 3,000 reviews "The golden limpet belongs to a species of the genus Neritina that has not yet been determined. It comes to us from Southeast Asia. The snail reaches a shell length up to 2.5 cm. Like all neritids, the Golden limpet is an excellent algae eater, which reliably clears the panes and decoration of algae deposits, while leaving the plants absolutely alone.
The Golden limpet is bisexual, but it is not possible to distinguish males from females by external characteristics. The females attach their whitish to beige egg cocoons to hard materials. After some time larvae hatch from them, which do not survive long in fresh water. Therefore, reproduction in the aquarium is absolutely impossible. In nature, the larvae are drifted into the sea, where they develop into juvenile snails and then migrate back into the rivers.
When acclimated, the Golden limpet eats not only all kinds of algae, but also food scraps and vegetables. Dried Hokkaido pumpkin is one of their favorite foods.
In newly established aquariums the Golden limpet starves to death. This can be seen by the fact that their foot becomes wrinkled and looks small in the shell opening. Then it is absolutely necessary to feed it! Natureholic snail food is suitable for this purpose, and brown autumn leaves are also readily grazed.
Golden limpets feel comfortable in medium to hard water and at water temperatures of 20 to 28 degrees Celsius. Aquariums with a side length of 40 cm or more are permanently suitable for one to three snails, provided they find sufficient food or are fed additionally.
Since the Golden Limpet is quite well protected by its shell shape, thick shell and lid, it can be easily socializedwith virtually all aquarium animals that do not specialize in snails as their main food.
Our food recommendation: With the Natureholic Snail Feed Power Paste you create a feeding lawn that is very well accepted by all aufwuchs feeding snails. Also delicate wild-caught snails such as racing snails or staghorn snails, which are stressed after transport and do not go to conventional food, can be well fed up with it.
Our plant recommendation: Use for planting NatureHolic InVitros. These are free of snails, planarians and other unwanted co-inhabitants. Also free of algae spores, bacteria and fungi.
Expert Tip: We recommend for fish keeping the NatureHolic 3 Phase Liquid. The care set offers the best all-round protection for your animals. It ensures optimal conditions for successful breeding and keeping.
Actively prevent outbreaks: With the invisible Natureholic Snail Barrier you prevent the escape and loss of your snails from the aquarium.
