Product information
Marsilea angustifolia - NatureHolic InVitro
Marsilea angustifolia is a beautiful clover fern species with narrower leaves. It is still very new to the hobby, but has already found an enthusiastic following. In the foreground, the narrow-leaved clover fern is just great - the plant carpets become nice and dense and thanks to the somewhat narrower leaves, this Marsilea looks a bit more grassy than other clover ferns. - Garnelio

Description

The Australian narrow-leaved clover fern Marsilea angustifolia is a great, not so demanding ground cover.  proven for aquascapes and planted aquariums. The narrow-leaved clover fern belongs to the clover ferns. These marsh plants get their name from their emersed leaves, which look deceptively similar to four-leaf clovers. In contrast, the submerged form does not look like lucky clover, but has a roundish dark green single leaf on a short stem. These leaves sit on underground stolons.

Marsilea angustifolia grows into dense fine textured carpets that only grow about 1-2 inches tall - perfect for nano aquariums and for the foreground in planted aquariums and aquascape, also super for iwagumi layouts.

Marsilea angustifolia is a beautiful alternative to Glossostigma because first, the leaflets are narrower and second, this clover fern doesn't need quite as strong light as Glosso.  It can happen that clover fern sprouts scattered clover-shaped leaves even under water, usually this happens when there is a lack of light or during the changeover phase. You can simply cut off these longer leaves.  CO2 does not necessarily need to be added to fertilize Marsilea angustifolia for it to thrive, however, additional carbon can enhance the growth of Narrow-leaved Clover Fern and promote a very nice compact growth habit.

If sufficient nutrients are available, narrow-leaf clover fern will grow relatively quickly and soon cover the foreground area. The attractive Marsilea angustifolia spreads nicely through runners that grow underground. Marsilea is ideal for securing slopes of substrate in the aquascape so that they do not slide off. The dense plant mats keep the soil stably in place.

Marsilea angustifolia stays very low and compact especially when it gets a lot of light. Before the plant mats become too dense, thin them out so they look neat. To do this, simply pull out isolated runners from the dense carpets of plants, then cut them off with sharp scissors.

You can use the resulting cut stolons to propagate the narrow-leaved clover fern. Marsilea angustifolia grows back very well from pieces about 2-4 inches long. Just plant them in the ground and you're done.

This Marsilea angustifolia was grown in meristem culture and comes to you in an inVitro cup. InVitro plants do not need to be quarantined before being placed in the aquarium. Pre-watering is not necessary due to the production method. The Narrowleaf Clover Fern from InVitro Culture has had no contact with algae, pesticides or pathogens, and it is also free of parasites, snails and worms. Still wash off the transparent culture medium from the roots and start planting.

You can also grow Marsilea angustifolia above water in paludariums, wabi kusa or a humid terrarium. Kept emersed, the plant has the narrow four-leafed lucky clover leaves that give it its name. In shallow water, the narrow-leaved clover fern also develops its four-parted floating leaves.

Our recommendation: for magnificent plant growth, we recommend Premium Nutrient Substrate when setting up a new plant: NatureHolic GroundBooster
