The snowflake shrimp was formerly listed as Macrobrachium kulsiense, in the meantime it has been placed in the genus Arachnochium and is now called Arachnochium kulsiense. The pretty, for a large-armed shrimp not very aggressive, rather shy animals originate from India. The males grow up to 5 cm, the females reach up to 4 cm. The females also have a somewhat downward extended abdomen. On a light background the snowflake shrimp has a vivid pattern of black, yellowish, light gray, brown and white spots. Especially the white dots literally shine and give it its unique appearance. Their claws are very small and filigree, and the transparent rostrum (the horizontal spine above the "nose") is remarkably large and humped.
Snowflake shrimp are very peaceful and rather shy even within their species. A larger group of at least 10 animals gives them security. A socialization with dwarf shrimps, fish, snails and mussels is well possible, as long as the demands on the water values match. We do not recommend a socialization with crabs and shrimps, these animals are not compatible with large-armed shrimps. Snowflake shrimp live rather hidden, especially in the beginning, they are nocturnal. With the time this shyness gives itself and one sees them also during the day.
Arachnochium kulsiense like to eat spinach and nettle leaves, but also special shrimp food. Two to three times a week they should be provided with a suitable protein food. Frozen food is also readily taken, and brown autumn leaves as a permanent food is also a must in the snowflake shrimp aquarium. Recommended Macrofeed.
The reproduction of the animals is relatively easy. The female carries 15 to 20 large eggs under her pleon, from which the fully developed young shrimp hatch after a few weeks. The offspring is independent from the beginning. No separate rearing tank is needed, as the snowflake shrimp do not chase the offspring. Artemia nauplii are beneficial for rearing.
Our food recommendation: The soft granulate of the Natureholic MacroFeed consists of biologically balanced animal components that large-armed shrimps would find in nature in this or a similar way. This supports in a completely natural way the moulting, the development and a healthy growth of your fascinating large arm shrimps in the aquarium.
Our plant recommendation: Use for planting NatureHolic InVitros. These are free of snails, planarians and other unwanted co-inhabitants. Also free of algae spores, bacteria and fungi.
Expert Tip: We recommend for fish keeping the NatureHolic 3 Phase Liquid. The care set offers the best all-round protection for your animals. It ensures optimal conditions for successful breeding and keeping.
