Black Fancy Tiger - various breeding groups
The Black Fancy Tiger shrimp is a very nice varied patterned dwarf shrimp. In the past, Fancys were seen more as a means to an end, because a few Pintos may fall from mating with Taiwan Bees in the offspring. Now, however, they are valued for their own sake. Skyfish has bred this color form to perfection and given them a first class color intensity. - Garnelio

Description

Skyfish Black Fancy Tiger is the result of crossing bee shrimp (Caridina logemanni) and tiger shrimp (Caridina mariae). This breeding form does not exist like this in nature, it occurred in an aquarium. Bee shrimp and tiger shrimp originally come from cool South Chinese streams with soft water. The Black Fancy Tiger is a hybrid, therefore it is called Caridina sp.

Fancy Tiger shrimps have been around for quite some time in aquaristics, but the Black Fancy Tigers from the well known breeder Leon Su aka Skyfish from Taiwan are a new chapter thanks to their extremely high quality and with their intense colors. Here you buy a breeding group of 5 Black Fancy Tiger shrimps Grade S or a breeding pair (2 animals) Grade SS. The Grade SS is characterized by an enormous color density and an incredibly good color coverage. In the Grade S the color is also very nice, but occasionally the animal can have few transparent spots.

The Black Fancy Tiger growing to 2-3 cm body length has a bright white base color, inherited from the Bee Shr imp, and a varied black pattern where both the Bee Shr imp and the Tiger Shrimp show through. Here you will find typical Black Bee patterns such as Mosura, No Entry, or even the suggestion of bands combined with finer black stripes typical of Tiger Shrimp. The adult females of the Skyfish Black Fancy Tiger Shrimp are beefier and larger than the males. Some females also show a downward enlarged second abdominal segment, called the tiger scoop. The opaque coloration does not allow the egg spot to be easily seen.

Skyfish Black Fancy Tiger Shrimp, like their ancestors, prefer rather soft water and a pH value in the slightly acidic range in the aquarium. The Black Fancy Tiger Dwarf Shrimp should be kept in tanks with a volume of 20 liters or more. The water must be oxygen-rich and as germ-poor as possible. Most tap water values in our country are not suitable for keeping this high breeding Caridina, because the water is clearly too hard, so in case of doubt you should resort to osmosis water or demineralized water from a demineralizer and a hardening salt for soft water shrimp. In Garnelio's system, the Skyfish Black Fancy Tiger dwarf shrimp sit in salinated water with a conductance of 250 microsiemens and a pH slightly below seven. For bee shrimp and other soft water shrimp suitable Aufhärtesalze buy directly here at Garnelio in the online store.

Ideal as substrate is active Soil for high breeding shrimp, because it lowers the water hardness and buffers the pH value to a range slightly below neutral.
The aquarium temperature for Skyfish Black Fancy Tiger should not drop below 20 degrees and should not exceed 25 degrees. If the water in the aquarium becomes warmer, especially in summer, you should cool it down with the help of an aquarium cooler.

Breeding tanks for high breeding shrimp like the Skyfish Black Fancy Tiger are not densely planted because these Caridina sp. dwarf shrimp do not tolerate nitrate well and because more demanding plants in the aquarium may well need to be fertilized with nitrate. In addition, a heavily weedy aquarium makes selection very tedious because it is confusing. A shrimp aquarium for Skyfish Black Fancy Tiger Shrimp can be planted nevertheless. This is best done with perching plants such as Bucephalandra or aquarium mosses, which are attached to smaller stones or root pieces. You can take them out of the aquarium if you want to select your shrimps. The shrimp will find hiding places and grazing grounds in the plants.

Basically, Skyfish Black Fancy Tiger shrimp should be kept in a species tank. Keeping them together with fish or predatory snails or with crabs and shrimps cannot be recommended. Possibly the Caridina sp. can be kept in a sufficiently large aquarium with aufwuchs feeding catfish such as Otocinclus. Skyfish Black Fancy Tiger Shrimp should also not be kept with Caridina cantonensis, Caridina serrata, with tiger shrimp or bee shrimp because they may interbreed and this may be to the detriment of the fascinating pattern and color coverage. Socializing with snails is also somewhat difficult because they do not live very long in soft water. Alternatively, some shrimp keepers keep shiner worms or tubifex in their high-breeding aquariums, which keep the bottom clean and loose and at the same time serve as a live food source for the shrimp.

After mating, the females carry 15-30 eggs under their abdomen. After 3-5 weeks the offspring of the Skyfish Black Fancy Tiger Shrimp hatch. The young are fully developed and survive in fresh water. For this reason the Black Fancy Tiger is quite good to breed if its requirements for clean, soft water are met.

Skyfish Black Fancy Tiger shrimp eat growth. As an omnivorous shrimp, they need some protein as well as mostly vegetable food, which is best supplied with live food such as artemia euplii or with a protein food suitable for shrimp. There is a special shrimp food from Skyfish that has proven to be very good. Green dried walnut leaves are a good plant food, shrimp also like scalded nettle leaves very much. A sea almond leaf or brown fall foliage provides fiber as well as tannins, which can help shrimp with molting.

Our food recommendation: NatureHolic's soft Mainfeed Softpads are designed for daily feeding. They contain all the nutrients shrimp need for shell development, egg formation and growth. During the production we pay attention to a gentle and environmentally friendly production, where the vitamins and other valuable ingredients are preserved as much as possible.

Our plant recommendation: Use for planting NatureHolic InVitros. These are free of snails, planaria and other unwanted co-inhabitants. Also free from algae spores, bacteria and fungi.

Expert Tip: We recommend for fish keeping the NatureHolic 3 Phase Liquid. The care set offers the best all-round protection for your animals. It ensures optimal conditions for successful breeding and keeping.
