The Skyfish Blue Boa has a metallic sheen on the back. This perfectly marked variant of the Boa dwarf shrimp is supplied to us by the successful breeder Skyfish from Taiwan. The snake-like pattern was bred out of the dorsal stripe pattern of the Galaxy Fishbone. The pattern of the Blue Boa shrimp lets the blue undercolor shine through, which gives this shrimp a fascinating color play of a deep, intense black and different shades of blue. The Grade S shows few transparent areas, the Grade SS shows almost perfect color coverage, the blue is a little deeper and the metallic effect a little more intense. You can buy these highly demanded shrimps from us as single specimen.
The Boa pattern is characterized by a very broad dorsal stripe that dissolves downward into a finer pattern on the head carapace and partially on the body of the shrimp.
The Blue Boa is a hybrid shrimp that Skyfish has bred from different shrimp species from the group around Caridina cantonensis. Therefore it is called Caridina sp. The Blue Boa grows up to a body length of 2-3 cm. The females grow slightly larger than the male boa shrimp.
Due to the high quality of coloration in the Skyfish Blue Boa, sex differentiation is not as easy as in more transparent shrimp - you simply cannot see the egg spot. When the females carry eggs under the abdomen, their sex is of course very easy to recognize. Adult females are much more robustly built than the slimmer, more delicate males, and their second abdominal segment is usually significantly broadened at the bottom - what is called a tiger scoop.
Skyfish Blue Boa shrimp absolutely require soft aquarium water with a pH below neutral. In our Garnelio facility we keep all Skyfish Caridina sp. on active soil in salted osmosis water at a conductance of 250 microsiemens and a pH slightly below seven. A high oxygen content in the aquarium water, coupled with the lowest possible germ load is important. Properly designed filtration ensures that the organic load in the shrimp aquarium is kept in check. Since Blue Boa shrimp do not tolerate high nitrate levels at all, they should definitely not be kept in fertilized planted aquariums.
The aquarium for the Skyfish Blue Boa Shrimp should have a volume of 20 liters or more. As substrate in the breeding aquarium an active Soil has proven itself for these beautifully drawn high breeding animals with successful breeders. This dark colored substrate causes the water values to automatically adjust to soft and slightly acidic.
Tap water is in most cases not optimal for keeping and breeding Skyfish Blue Boa shrimp. Experienced shrimp breeders therefore place these shrimp in treated osmosis water or in treated water from a demineralizer. This so-called zero water is hardened with a mineral salt, which leaves the carbonate hardness unaffected and only increases the total hardness. You can recognize these so-called bee salts by the name addition GH+. You can buy them here in our online store. Blue Boa high breeding shrimps like water temperatures of 20 to 25 degrees best. If the temperatures get too high in summer, the water is best cooled down with an aquarium cooler.
Dense planting would be counterproductive due to clutter, so we recommend low planting in the Blue Boa breeding tank. In the plants the shrimps find growth to nibble on and hiding places, so you should not do without them completely. As greenery for such a shrimp breeding aquarium are saplings such as bucephalandra or moss ideal. These aquarium plants are attached to stones or roots. This makes it convenient to remove them from the breeding tank when you want to sort the shrimp by color and pattern.
Skyfish Blue Boa shrimp are best kept and bred in the species tank, and not in the company of fish or of other shrimp, crabs or shrimp. Shrimp from the cantonensis group such as the Bee Shrimp, Aura Blue, Tangerine Tiger, Tiger Shrimp, and Caridina serrata, as well as other hybrid breeds, may interbreed with Skyfish Blue Boa Dwarf Shrimp. This can result in negative development of color coverage and pattern in the offspring. Snails are often recommended as additional stock, but they often live only a short time in soft water. Successful breeders of high breeding shrimp sometimes use shiner worms or tubifex as cleaners and soil looseners in their breeding aquariums instead. They don't mind the soft, acidic water, and the shrimp also like to take them as live food and a species-appropriate protein source.
Skyfish Blue Boa dwarf shrimp can be bred in freshwater because this is where fully developed, independent young hatch, not larvae. Once their water, food and husbandry requirements are met, females attach 15-30 eggs to their swimming legs after mating and carefully care for them for 4 to 6 weeks until the young shrimp hatch.
Skyfish Blue Boa shrimp eat mainly aufwuchs and also like to go to vegetable food such as green dried walnut leaves or even briefly scalded with boiling water nettle leaves. Brown autumn leaves or small sea almond leaves are suitable as a permanent food and source of tannins. The tannins contained here help the shrimp during the molting process. Like all Caridina shrimp, the Blue Boa are omnivores and should be fed once or twice a week a protein containing food or for example live food like Artemia euplii. A good suitable food is for example the Skyfish shrimp food S3.
Our food recommendation: The soft Mainfeed Softpads from NatureHolic are designed for daily feeding. They contain all the nutrients shrimp need for shell development, egg formation and growth. During the production process we pay attention to a gentle and environmentally friendly production, which preserves the vitamins and other valuable ingredients as much as possible.
Our plant recommendation: Use for the planting NatureHolic InVitros. These are free of snails, planaria and other unwanted co-inhabitants. Also free of algae spores, bacteria and fungi.
Expert Tip: We recommend for fish keeping the NatureHolic 3 Phase Liquid. The care set offers the best all-round protection for your animals. It ensures optimal conditions for successful breeding and keeping.
