Description

At Garnelio in the store you can buy here a breeding group of three animals of different Caridina shrimp with Orange Eyes - OE - from the breeding of Leon Su alias Skyfish. These Skyfish dwarf shrimps have been hybridized from different species and stand out mainly because of their bright eye color. Their body color varies from variant to variant. We have different Caridina with OE on offer here. These variants all have the highest grade SS, which underlines their exceptional quality.

Our Yellow King Kong OE have a bright yellow, slightly transparent body. The Red Zebra Pinto OE stand out due to their red stripe coloration on the back, alternating with transparent areas. The belly area is colored through here. Red Panda OE show the classic pattern of a Taiwan shrimp with a deep red. Due to the orange eyes there are no white pigments, so the areas that would be white in a taiwan shrimp or pinta shrimp with dark eyes are transparent here. The Red Devil OE stands out with a completely red body coloration in combination with OE, and the Red Tiger OE has partly continuous thin, deep red cross stripes on its abdomen, while the head area is predominantly colored deep red.

Contrary to earlier assumptions, by the way, shrimp with OE are not blind, they just have different vision than other dwarf shrimp with black eyes - they see slightly worse in bright light, but much better in darker light conditions.

These Caridina dwarf shrimp grow to about 2 to 3 inches in size. The males of these hybrid breeds are slightly smaller than the females. The females are conspicuous by a much more downward extended abdomen. Often they can be recognized by eggs under the abdomen or by the egg spot, but also the so called tiger scoop (this is the name for the strongly widened second segment of the abdomen) is a sign that you have a female animal in front of you.

In the Caridina OE of Skyfish there are different species from the genus Caridina, which all have their origin in South China. They need soft water with a high oxygen content and a low germ density. A classic planted aquarium is not suitable for these beautiful high breeding shrimp. Fertilization would harm them. A capacity of 20 to 60 liters should be offered with the aquarium at least.

The water is best prepared with a special mineral salt for bee shrimp. As starting water use osmosis water or water from a demineralizer. As a substrate we definitely recommend active Soil, designed for shrimp keeping. In our aquarium the Skyfish shrimps sit in osmosis water treated with bee salt with a conductance of 250 microsiemens and at a pH slightly below 7. The water temperatures should not exceed 25 °C even in summer, so we recommend the use of an aquarium cooler if necessary.

A classic breeding tank for high breeding shrimp is not particularly heavily planted and is filtered with a powerful filter. However, mosses and perching plants such as Bucephalandra should not be missing in such a shrimp aquarium. They provide food and hiding places for the shrimp. For better handling during selection, the mosses or bucephalandra are tied onto small pieces of roots or lava stones. This way you can easily take them out if you want to select the shrimp by color or pattern and need a good view.

It is best to keep these very special breeding forms in a species tank. Fish company should not necessarily be - if at all, then a socialization with growth eating small catfish like the ear lattice catfish Otocinclus would be conceivable. With other shrimp species from soft water hybridization and undesirable patterns in the offspring may occur. A socialization with crayfish or crabs is not possible because of the different requirements to water and food. A supplementary stock of, for example, shiny worms or Tubifex as a clean-up troop in the bottom can have a positive effect. Snails usually do not do well in the slightly acidic water that these Skyfish Caridina OE need.

If the environmental conditions are suitable and you have the necessary instinct and knowledge, the Skyfish Caridina, which are rather suitable for advanced shrimp breeders, can be bred relatively well. About every 6-8 weeks the animals mate, the females carry the eggs under the belly until hatching and release about 15 to 30 fully developed young after four to six weeks of gestation. These Caridina with OE are of the specialized reproductive type.

Caridina OE shrimp, like all dwarf shrimp, are omnivorous. However, they should be fed a predominantly vegetable diet. From Skyfish there is special shrimp food, which has already proven very successful in its breeding in Taiwan. But also green food like scalded nettle or green dried walnut leaves are eaten with pleasure. Protein food should be given only 1-2 times per week. In addition to the Skyfish food, Artemia nauplii have also proven successful. Brown autumn leaves or a small sea almond leaf can be given as permanent food in the aquarium. The tannins contained here have a positive effect on the shrimp.

Our food recommendation: NatureHolic's soft Mainfeed Softpads are designed for daily feeding. They contain all the nutrients shrimp need for shell development, egg formation and growth. During the production we pay attention to a gentle and environmentally friendly production, which preserves the vitamins and other valuable ingredients as much as possible.

Our plant recommendation: Use for planting NatureHolic InVitros. These are free of snails, planaria and other unwanted co-inhabitants. Also free of algae spores, bacteria and fungi.

Expert Tip: We recommend for fish keeping the NatureHolic 3 Phase Liquid. The care set offers the best all-round protection for your animals. It ensures optimal conditions for successful breeding and keeping.
