from over 3,000 reviews "Among the LPS corals there are some coral genera that are very difficult to distinguish and are therefore grouped under the name Chalice. These large polyp stony corals mostly belong to the genera Echinophyllia, Echinopora and Oxipora. All these stony coral species grow flat and have typical spots. The genera have their home partly in the Red Sea and also in the Indo-Pacific. Here you buy a colorful mix of this collection category at the stony corals.
The colors of the Chalice stony corals can vary strongly. As LPS corals, Chalices are not as demanding as small polyp SPS corals. LPS corals are well compatible with keeping in marine aquariums and are super suitable for beginners to coral keeping in reef aqu ariums. However, Chalice are also attractive flat corals for advanced marine aquarists, which can be kept relatively stress-free in the aquarium and simply look great.
Chalice can change color and appearance in the aquarium depending in part on light intensity and the presence of nutrients and trace elements. These stony corals grow better when fed with plant and animal plankton; then they can also develop more beautiful colors.
For large polyped Chalice stony corals are suitable seawater aquariums from about 150 liters. You should give chalicas a medium current. They also need medium light and a location in the reef that is more bottom to middle.
The popular chalicas can be easily propagated by taking a detached piece and gluing it with a good coral glue to a small stone or directly to your reef.
