from over 3,000 reviews "The beautiful Micromussa (formerly: Acanthastrea) lordhowensis is a large polyp stony coral and thus belongs to the LPS corals. It is sometimes also called Acan.
Here you buy 2-3 offshoots of this beautiful stony coral, a surprise package as far as shape and color are concerned! This wonderful, very variable large polyp stony coral grows up to 20 cm and shows an interesting shape. The large colored polyps are clearly visible. The LPS coral originally comes from the Indo-Pacific.
Micromussa stony corals are like all LPS corals much more robust and easier to keep than the small polyp SPS corals and are therefore very suitable for beginners in coral keeping in the marine reef aquarium. Micromussa lordhowensis shows wonderful colors and shapes. The coloration of Acans depends partly on the light intensity and strongly on the availability of nutrients.
The Large Polyped Stony Coral Micromussa lordhowensis is adaptable and well suited for marine reef aquariums from 200 liters volume. Under medium light it shows beautiful colors and grows well. It is more a case for the middle to lower area of the reef, a spot in a shaded area is also possible. Micromussa lordhowensis does not tolerate strong direct light and also needs only a medium current. It likes blue light.
If fed with fine plant and animal plankton, Micromussa lordhowensis will grow faster in the reef aquarium and show brighter colors, but feeding is not mandatory.
Propagation of the Large Polyped Stony Coral is quite easy: To do this, separate a piece and attach it with coral glue to a small rock or directly to a suitable place on your reef. The large polyp coral will soon continue to grow in the new place.
