The wonderful shapes and colors of the brain coral make it a super beautiful eye-catcher on your coral reef in the marine aquarium. The rather round shapes and the interesting line structures of the brain coral Platygyra sp. contrast nicely against plate corals or branching corals. The brain coral belongs to the rather adaptable and robust LPS corals with large polyps and finds a place in the middle light zone to rather down on the reef well. Description

Platygyra sp. belongs to the large polyp stony corals or LPS corals. Its special shape has also earned it the name brain coral. Here you buy a mix of the beautifully structured and colored stony coral. Let yourself be surprised by the great colors! The LPS coral originates from the Indo-Pacific.

Platygyra stony corals are much easier to keep as LPS corals in a saltwater reef aquarium than the small polyped and quite demanding SPS corals. Large polyp stony corals are very suitable for beginners in coral keeping in reef aquariums, but also for advanced fishers who want to make coral keeping in seawater not quite so complicated but still attractive.

The brain coral Platygyra sp. shows beautiful, varied structures and shapes. Their coloration depends partly on the light intensity and on the availability of nutrients and can therefore vary quite a bit.

The brain coral Platygyra sp. fits perfectly into a saltwater reef aquarium from about 150 liters. It feels very comfortable under medium light. The brain coral can find its place in the middle to lower part of your reef, but should not sit in the shade. Platygyra sp. needs only a medium current, strong water currents should not be directed directly at the animal. Changing conditions are tolerated very well.

Feeding Platygyra sp. with fine plant and animal plankton in a reef aquarium will result in faster growth and better colors.

The propagation of the brain coral is possible by cutting off an offshoot, which you fix with coral glue on a suitable stone or directly on your reef.
