from over 3,000 reviews "The Malayan giant ghost insect, also known as the jungle nymph, is a phasmid and the only member of the genus Heteropteryx. Females can weigh up to 70 g, making them one of the heaviest species in this family. Males, on the other hand, are narrower and smaller than females. The species is native to West Malaysia and Thailand.
For keeping 1-2 pairs the terrarium should be at least 30x30x45 cm. For more animals double the size is recommended. The Malayan Giant Ghost Insect requires a daytime temperature of 20-30°C and around 20°C at night. The humidity should be between 60-70%. The terrarium should have sufficient height to provide enough habitat for the animals. The substrate should be a mixture of loamy sand and soil. The animals can be fed blackberry leaves year-round, which are also available in winter. Alternatively, oak leaves or raspberry leaves can be fed. Feeding branches should be placed in a narrow container to prevent animals from falling in and drowning. Rotting leaves and stagnant water must be removed regularly. Plants should also be sprayed regularly to provide adequate drinking water for the animals. The Malayan Giant Ghost Insect has a life expectancy of up to 1.5 years for females. The difficulty level for keeping this species is rated as medium.
