The Pinto Mosura Tigers from Skyfish were bred out of the interbreeding of different species. Among other things, bee shrimp (Caridina logemanni) and tiger shrimp (Caridina mariae) have been involved here, which can still be seen very nicely in the colors and the tiger pattern. Here you buy a breeding group of three shrimp of the highest grade SS or five animals of grade S from the breeding of Leon Su alias Skyfish. The source animals for this high grade shrimp from Skyfish live in the wild in southern China. However, the Pinto Mosura Tiger is a farmed form that was bred in the aquarium.
The Pinto Mosura Tiger has a white base color and shows the Mosura pattern of the bee shrimp, i.e. two dots on the back. Furthermore it has tiger stripes on the segments of the abdomen and additionally the typical pied pinto pattern on the head carapace and partly on the body. The high quality of the Skyfish dwarf shrimp extends here also to the color density and the color coverage. Transparent areas are very few in the Grade SS, in the Grade S the animals are slightly less opaque colored.
The Pinto Mosura Tiger Shrimp grow to a body length of about 2 to 3 cm. The males of these Skyfish Caridina hybrids usually remain somewhat smaller and more slender than the females with their long downward extended abdominal segments. The females can be recognized by eggs under the abdomen - the egg spot is usually not visible with the good color density. The females very often also have a so-called tiger scoop (i.e. a strongly broadened second segment on the abdomen).
Pinto Mosura Tiger Shrimp need soft water with low carbonate hardness, plenty of oxygen and a preferably low germ density. A classic planted aquarium is not suitable for them, as it is heavily fertilized, which is not good for the beautiful high breeding shrimp. The aquarium for the Pinto Mosura Tiger Shrimp should have at least 20 liters.
The aquarium water is best mixed specifically for the Skyfish Pinto Mosura Tiger Dwarf Shrimp. These Caridina hybrids are very rarely suitable for very soft tap water. Successful breeders work with osmosis water or water from a demineralizer and with a mineral salt especially for bee shrimp and other shrimp that prefer soft water in the aquarium. The water temperature should be between 20 and 25 degrees. In the warm season we recommend the use of an aquarium cooler, if the room temperatures are permanently above this.
The substrate should be a soil suitable for shrimp, which brings the water values to a suitable value for these Caridina hybrids and stabilizes them. At our Garnelio facility we have the Skyfish shrimp in osmosis water, which we treat with bee salt. The conductivity is 250 microsiemens and the pH is slightly below 7. An efficient filter is mandatory to keep the organic load of the water as low as possible and the germ density with it.
A typical breeding tank for high breeding shrimps like the Skyfish Pinto Mosura Tiger is not heavily planted - on the one hand you want to see the animals and on the other hand a heavy planting makes the breeding selection very difficult. Mosses and perching plants such as Bucephalandra have proven to be effective here. Here the shrimp find numerous hiding places in addition to biofilms as food. The mosses and bucephalandra are simply attached to small pieces of roots or lava rocks for use in the shrimp breeding aquarium - tied on or with plant glue. They are simply removed from the aquarium when the breeder selects the shrimp for color or pattern.
It is best to keep the Skyfish Caridina Pinto Mosura Tiger Shrimp in a species tank. Snails are usually not very long-lived due to the water values. Glossworms or Tubifex have proven to be a good addition and cleaning troop. They clean up, and if the shrimps get hungry for proteins, they serve them as permanent live food. The somewhat stress-prone Caridina Pinto Mosura Tiger Shrimp should not be kept with fish at any price - in sufficiently large aquariums, it is conceivable to keep them with small growth-eating catfish such as Otocinclus / Earless Catfish. With other shrimp species from soft water the Skyfish Pinto Mosura Tiger Shrimp may mate and produce unwanted patterns in the offspring. With crabs or shrimps the socialization does not work. The requirements to the water and also the way of life are too different.
In a suitable setup the Skyfish Caridina Pinto Mosura Tiger shrimps are relatively good to breed for advanced shrimp breeders. Mating occurs approximately every 6-8 weeks. This Caridina hybrid belongs to the specialized reproductive type. Female Pinto Mosura Tigers therefore carry the eggs under the abdomen, where they perform brood care, and after four to six weeks release an estimated 15 to 30 fully developed young, which are immediately on their own and do not require further care by the mother shrimp.
Skyfish's Pinto Mosura Tiger Shrimp are typical dwarf shrimp omnivores, but should be fed mostly plant foods. The breeder Skyfish from Taiwan has developed a special shrimp food for his animals, which he feeds himself with very good success. But also scalded nettle and green dried walnut leaves are very popular and provide the beautiful high breeding shrimp with many minerals and vitamins. Protein food should be fed only 1-2 times a week. In addition to Skyfish food, you can also feed Artemia nauplii, for example. Brown autumn leaves respectively a small piece of sea almond tree leaf provides as permanent food not only food, but also tannins, which have a positive effect on the shrimps.
Our food recommendation: NatureHolic's soft Mainfeed Softpads are designed for daily feeding. They contain all the nutrients shrimp need for shell development, egg formation and growth. During the production we pay attention to a gentle and environmentally friendly production, in which the vitamins and other valuable ingredients are preserved as far as possible.
Our plant recommendation: Use for planting NatureHolic InVitros. These are free of snails, planaria and other unwanted co-inhabitants. Also free of algae spores, bacteria and fungi.
Expert Tip: We recommend for fish keeping the NatureHolic 3 Phase Liquid. The care set offers the best all-round protection for your animals. It ensures optimal conditions for successful breeding and keeping.
