The Skyfish Red Fancy Tiger was created by crossing bee shrimp and tiger shrimp in an aquarium. The original species originated from cool soft water streams in southern China. Since the Red Fancy Tiger is a hybrid, it is listed as Caridina sp. While Fancy Tiger shrimp have been known for quite some time, the Red Fancy Tiger from the well known breeder Skyfish from Taiwan is on a new level with its incredible quality and beautiful colors. Here you buy a breeding group of 5 Red Fancy Tiger shrimp of grade S or a breeding pair (2 animals) of grade SS.
The 2-3 cm growing Red Fancy Tiger is characterized by its bright white base color, inherited from the bee shr imp, and by its great ruby red pattern, where you can guess the bee shrimp and the tiger shrimp in their ancestry. So on these shrimp Red Bee patterns like a No Entry Sign or implied bands combine with thin red tiger type stripes, creating a fascinating effect. The Grade SS has an incredible color density and a very good color coverage. In the Grade S, the color is not quite as intense, and there may be isolated areas of transparency.
The adult females of the Skyfish Red Fancy Tiger Shrimp are larger than the males and noticeably more bulky in build. Some Caridina sp. females also have a slightly larger second abdominal segment, the tiger scoop. The segment is not enlarged in males. Due to good color coverage, it is not possible to see an egg spot on females, but if they are carrying eggs, sex determination is easy.
Skyfish Red Fancy Tiger Shrimp prefer soft water and a pH in the acidic range, like their ancestors, the Bee Shrimp and Tiger Shrimp. Aquarium water should also be soft and slightly acidic. The Red Fancy Tiger Dwarf Shrimp should be kept and bred in aquariums with a capacity of 20 liters or more. The water should be rich in oxygen and have a low germ density. In tap water the keeping is quite difficult in most areas in our country, because this water is much too hard. We recommend the use of osmosis water or deionized water (demineralized water from a demineralizer) in combination with a hardening salt for soft water shrimp. At Garnelio, we keep the Skyfish Red Fancy Tiger Dwarf Shrimp in a setup with a conductance of 250 microsiemens and a pH below seven. Suitable hardening salts for bee shrimp and other soft water shrimp can be purchased here at Garnelio in the online store. Ideal is active Soil as substrate for a Caridina breeding aquarium for high breeding shrimp, which lowers the water hardness and keeps the pH value in a slightly acidic range. The water temperature in an aquarium for Skyfish Red Fancy Tiger should be 20 to 25 degrees. If the water gets warmer in the summer, you should use an aquarium cooler to bring the temperature back down.
A breeding tank for Skyfish Red Fancy Tiger should not be planted too densely. On the one hand, the beautiful dwarf shrimp do not tolerate high nitrate values (which can be quite higher in fertilized planted aquariums), on the other hand, a weedy tank unnecessarily complicates the work of the breeder because it is confusing. A planting of the shrimp aquarium for the Red Fancy Tiger Shrimp is nevertheless possible thanks to perching plants. Bucephalandra or aquarium mosses can be tied onto small stones or root pieces. This way you can easily remove them from the aquarium when you want to select your shrimp. On the plants the shrimps find grazing grounds and hiding places.
Basically, we advise against socializing the Red Fancy Tiger Shrimp with fish, predatory snails, crabs or shrimp. These high breeding dwarf shrimp are best kept in a species tank. In sufficiently large aquariums, socialization with Otocinclus catfish might be possible. Red Fancy Tiger Shrimp can interbreed with Tiger Shrimp and Bee Shrimp, and also with other Caridina such as Caridina cantonensis. This can be at the expense of beautiful pattern and color coverage. With snails, on the other hand, a socialization is possible, especially since the snails take care of food remnants and, for example, tower cover snails keep the bottom loose. Unfortunately, soft water is not permanently suitable for snail keeping in many cases, and the snails prove to be quite short-lived. As an alternative and as a clean-up crew, some breeders use shiner worms, which also serve as a live food source for the shrimp.
The 15-30 eggs that the females of the Skyfish Red Fancy Tiger shrimp carry under their abdomen for about three to five weeks do not hatch into larvae, but fully developed juveniles that survive in freshwater. Red Fancy Tigers are relatively easy to breedif conditions are good.
Skyfish Red Fancy Tiger shrimp, like the vast majority of dwarf shrimp, are nursery feeders and omnivores. While they also need protein, they should be fed a primarily vegetable diet. They cover their protein requirements partly from the growth they graze on and from live food such as shiner worms, tubifex or artemia euplii, but a protein food specially suitable for bee shrimp can also be fed 1-2 times a week. In addition to dried green walnut leaves, scalded stinging nettle leaves have also proven to be a good basic plant food. With brown autumn leaves or a small piece of a sea almond tree leaf you bring in another useful permanent food source, which additionally releases tannins into the aquarium water. They have a positive effect on the shedding of the shrimp and on their immune system.
Our food recommendation: The soft Mainfeed Softpads from NatureHolic are designed for daily feeding. They contain all the nutrients shrimp need for shell development, egg formation and growth. During the production process we pay attention to a gentle and environmentally friendly production, in which the vitamins and other valuable ingredients are preserved as much as possible.
Our plant recommendation: Use for the planting NatureHolic InVitros. These are free of snails, planaria and other unwanted co-inhabitants. Also free of algae spores, bacteria and fungi.
Expert Tip: We recommend for fish keeping the NatureHolic 3 Phase Liquid. The care set offers the best all-round protection for your animals. It ensures optimal conditions for successful breeding and keeping.
