Skyfish refers to its red taiwan shrimp, also called Shadow Shrimp, as Red King Kong. Shadow shrimp are now generally considered to be the result of a cross between bee shrimp and tiger shrimp from southern China, and as hybrids are referred to as Caridina sp. What stands out about Skyfish Red King Kong is the incredible quality that has been bred out of Taiwan by the breeder behind Skyfish Leon Su. The Skyfish Red King Kong are a breeding form from the aquaristic. Here you buy different sized breeding groups of 10 or 20 animals.
With the Red King Kong there are different variants. Common to all of them is an incredible color density and a very strong color coverage, the bright white, the clear demarcation between the colors and the typical deep red of the Shadow Shrimps.
In the predominantly red pattern variant Red King Kong Stripe there is a short white cross stripe on the abdomen, which does not go all the way down. The animals have a small white head marking and a white termination on the tail fan. The almost pure red variant Red King Kong Extreme Red on the other hand has no white markings except for the white cross banding on the tail fan. The Red King Kong Mosura, on the other hand, is similar in pattern to a Mosura Red Bee: the body is predominantly white with a red head band and a red spot on the abdomen. The red markings, however, have the deep, dark red of the Taiwang shrimp. The Red King Kong No Entry also follows this color scheme, but it also has a so-called No Entry sign on its back, which is a red dot divided into two parts by a thick white horizontal stripe that looks like a stop sign. The Red King Kong Flower Head also follows this color scheme, but here the red head band is interrupted by white markings in such a way that it almost looks like a flower pattern.
The Skyfish Red King Kong shrimp grow from 2 to about 3 inches in size. The females are rather large and quite bulky and roundish, the males usually remain somewhat smaller and rather slender. The females can certainly be identified if they are carrying eggs - the egg spot is often not visible with the high profile color coverage. In most Red King Kong females, the second segment on the abdomen, the tiger scoop, is enlarged, which is not the case in many males.
Skyfish Red King Kong shrimp, like many Caridina shrimp, require soft water with a slightly acidic pH and very little or no carbonate hardness in the aquarium. The Red King Kong Dwarf Shrimp should be kept in aquarium volumes of 20 liters or more. Oxygen-rich, low-germ water is a basic condition for successful keeping and breeding. Usually tap water is not suitable for keeping these beautiful high breeding shrimp. Better success is achieved with the Skyfish Red King Kong dwarf shrimp with demineralized water from a demineralizer or with osmosis water, which is brought to the appropriate values with a mineral salt optimized for bee shrimp and taiwan shr imp according to package instructions. Suitable products can be purchased here at Garnelio in the online store. The water temperature in the aquarium should not exceed 20 to 25 degrees. If the aquarium becomes warmer, especially in summer, it should be cooled down with an aquarium cooler.
Active Soil is the ideal substrate for a breeding aquarium with Caridina high breeding shrimp. This soil lowers the water hardness and pH to a slightly acidic range. In the Garnelio system we keep the Skyfish Caridina shrimps in salted osmosis water with a conductance of 250 microsiemens and a pH value slightly below 7.
If you want to breed the Skyfish Red King Kong specifically, you should not plant the breeding aquarium too densely. The separation of the offspring in colors and patterns would otherwise become very difficult. Of course you can still keep plants in your shrimp aquarium, the popular Bucephalandra or aquarium mosses are ideal here. They provide surfaces for grazing and hiding places. To make handling easier, attach these plants to small rocks such as aquarium-grade lava or to roots. This way you can easily remove them from the tank when you want to sort your Skyfish Red King Kong offspring.
Basically, socialization of taiwan shrimp with fish, crabs, shrimps and predatory snails is not necessarily recommended. Growth eating catfish like the ear lattice catfish can be a good company for Red King Kong shrimp, but here the aquarium should be large enough. A species tank is usually a better choice for high breeding Caridina. Many snails are quite short-lived in soft water. As a clean-up troop, shiny worms have proven themselves as an alternative, which keep the substrate loose and which take care of food remains. Every now and then the shrimp will grab a worm as a protein source, this is an added benefit - a permanent live food addition to the shrimp aquarium. With other Caridina shrimp such as bee shrimp (Caridina logemanni) or tiger shrimp (Caridina mariae) hybridization and possibly undesirable patterns will occur.
The Skyfish Red King Kong shrimp belongs to the specialized reproductive type and thus has fully developed juveniles that survive directly in freshwater. It is therefore relatively easy to breed under good conditions. After mating, females carry 15-30 eggs attached to their swimming legs under their abdomen, which are cared for and cleaned until hatching. After approximately three to five weeks, the juvenile shrimp hatch.
Skyfish Red King Kong shrimp, like most Caridina sp. are nursery feeders and omnivores that should be fed a primarily vegetable diet. They meet their protein requirements primarily from growth, but can be fed protein foods once or twice a week, or even artemia euplii, for example. Dried green walnut leaves, scalded spinach or nettle leaves are good shrimp foods. Add some brown autumn leaves or a small sea almond leaf for a permanent food source. Tannins are contained here, which can have a positive effect on the shrimp and support them, for example, during molting.
Our food recommendation: NatureHolic's soft Mainfeed Softpads are designed for daily feeding. They contain all the nutrients shrimp need for shell development, egg formation and growth. During the production we pay attention to a gentle and environmentally friendly production, in which the vitamins and other valuable ingredients are preserved as far as possible.
Our plant recommendation: Use for the planting NatureHolic InVitros. These are free of snails, planaria and other unwanted co-inhabitants. Also free of algae spores, bacteria and fungi.
Expert Tip: We recommend for fish keeping the NatureHolic 3 Phase Liquid. The care set offers the best all-round protection for your animals. It ensures optimal conditions for successful breeding and keeping.
